I've seen some of you put an equilizer under there or a speaker. Is there anything else you can fit under there? I'm really only interested in support for the radio to keep that back of it from sagging. This is my current set up:

It works fine. I have a bracket attached to the back of the radio which rests on the factory radio supprt bracket.....but I don't trust it to hold the weight of the radio forever. It was a temporary thing thats held up for quite some time. Since I was going to be back there when I hook up the amp, I figured it would be a good time to brainstorm an idea for a support.

I was thinking of putting something behind the pocket that the back of the radio could rest on and provide it some extra support. Did any of that make sense? I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about lol Any ideas? I'm thinking I'll have to measure the space between the bottom of the radio and the factory support bracket and fashion something....maybe a small block of wood. well i hope all that made sense to someone. :shrug:

wood would work if you cut it to the right size... thats one reason why i havent replaced my radio with anything aftermarket... i dont like the adapters on the market they all seem too flimsy

i cant figure out why everyone mounts the radio on the top, is that like a rule or something?

take it out flip the box over and put the radio on the bottom and the pocket above the radio, then the radio can sit on that bottom cross brace.

i hear ya.....i like my box on the top..........the radio will be supported by the factory radio support if it was on the bottom.......i use my box for my remote

my box is now a switch plate.

I had a DVD HU(Kenwood Flip out) in my F150 & had a clarion center channel speaker in the spare slot. Plan on doing the same thing with the Ranger but with a different H/U.

I don't really care for the radio on the bottom, I think it sits a little too low for my taste. I see your point though and I've thought about doing that, I just haven't convinced myself yet. I like the idea of a center channel speaker though. Maybe I'll look into that. Does it sound pretty decent?

The bad thing about a center channel speaker is unless you get a self powered speaker, you will have to have an amp for it.......the headunit will not support 5 speakers, it will fry it.....i know because i have tried before and it cooked the headunit........i would say put an equalizer in there and get better sound quality!

For movies it sounded awesome. Tough to find 5.1 surround music but what I found sounded great. The center channel had its own amp so it was adjustable but a good 5.1 H/U will have its own settings so the center channel doesn't drown out anything else.

I'm going with the JVC KD-AVX2 in the Ranger which has on-board 5.1 surround-sound decoding & front, rear, center channel, and subwoofer preamp outputs. Then add the Clarion SRK5 under it.

Ok, well that scatches that idea. My H/U has more audio settings then I can keep up with as it is, I'm not sure an equalizer is really even necessary. That sounds like an expensive way to fill that hole lol. I think I'm just going to have to brainstorm a little to figure out what I want to do with it.

I'm not sure if you can mod the hole to fit in a double din H/U in it. Before I had the Kenwood in my F-150 we cut out the back of the dash some & trimmed the front surround to fit in a Pioneer H/U & a single din Pioneer DSP(EQ on steroids).

you could mold the adapter piece to the radio bezel, then fill in the hole and use it as a switch base, with the switches molded into the plate!

That might be a little bit of overkill though lol

The switches idea isnt too bad. I was thinking of mounting my amp's bass controls under there somehow. I think they'll fit in there.

I think I'll take a look at it when I get home...see if some ideas fall in my lap while I'm looking at it. Thats usually how it happens with me lol

Thats exactly the same DSP I had in my F-150 before I went to video. The 7600 has been around for a long time & works awesome. I ended up putting it in my bed system in my F-150.

hmmm. The Kenwood 9-band equalizer is looking tempting. Does anyone else other then Kenwood make one that would fit?

look for a 1/2 din EQ. Audio control, Alpine,MA audio makes them and so do others.
