Back In a Ranger
Back In a Ranger
God morning all , I was a previous owner of a 2005 Ranger extended cab 4x4. A minor mishap ended with it wrapped around a tree and me in the ICU. Got a nice three month vacation off of work while I recovered : / . Fast forward a year and a half and I am back in a Ranger.
Yesterday I picked up a 1999 Stepside (Styleside?) extended cab 4x4 with 170k on the clock. Runs good, AC works, 4X4 works and other than the inside of the bed and a spot on the tailgate there is no rust on the truck. My guess is that it had a bed liner that trapped water and rotted the bed a little. Not sure what I am going to do about it. First up will be shocks, a tune up, trailer hitch, headlights and maybe tie rod ends. It left like two small drips on my driveway but it had a water pump and timing chain cover gasket put on so it may be from that. The rear shackles rotted but the repair kit was installed and looks new and nicely done.
The negatives are a subtle vibration of some kind around 60 mph that may be u joints. No rear end whine like my other Ranger had. The rear doors of the cab don't open , feels like the top latch is releasing but not the bottom. The interior looks like a couple of hobo's were living in it or maybe the previous owner was just rebuilding carb's in it or something. Carpet is seriously stained up. The center console is kind of messed up and likely needs to be replaced. Nothing major from what I have seen so far.
Tracks straight on the road even when you apply the brakes with no hands on the wheel.
The guy I bought it off of had the original title and never titled it himself so its basically a one owner truck.
