can any body help me i have a 2004 ford ranger fx4 when i put it into four wheel drive i have a bad clunk noise when am driving

 

Clunk when you shift in a out of it? You shouldn't be driving with 4wd on the street anyway.

 

it only does it when your moving

 

Are the tires the same size all around? Do you rotate them regularly? Even the slightest difference in tire size will cause some binding in the drivetrain. Since 04 the transfer case fluid should or should have been changed.

 

whipper it sounds like its in thefront driveshaft but i took it off and the ujoint seems to be tight

 

the fluid has been changed tires are the same size rotate them every 6000 miles

 

I had a thumping when in 4wd on my 03. I changed the fluid and it went away. It could be anything really.

Does the noise happen offroad or just on the street?

 

on the street i had the fluid changed awhile ago how do you drain it does it have a plug or do you have to take off the differential cover

 

i replaced th driver side axle shaft a week ago thinking that was the problem the boot was tore

The front axle has a full/drain plug on the driver's side. You take it out with a 3/8 inch ratchet. You have to suck the fluid out with a hand pump through that hole. You can't pull the cover because there is no room. Changing the drive axle was a good idea. It would have failed with that torn boot. Really though you shouldn't drive in 4wd on the street at all unless you have deep snow to drive through.
