On the fence..

hey there. my first rig was a 87 2.3 ranger. i was in high school and fell into peer pressure to lower it by heating the coils and taking out the leafs, crummy ride but it was a blast. had it for a while then sold it once i got a cherokee. been into jeeps ever since then but now im getting tired of my comanche and thinking of getting a ranger. i love the look of the 98+ but have only found one or two lift kits and they werent free. so im on the lookout for a very cheap 98+ i can turn into a project, or a 95-97 i can use as a mild toy. the down side is it seems like these rangers have WORSE rust issues than my MJ

my 87

the 92 i was going to to turbo

when i got it i wasnt going to do anything to it, ive since put in built 44's, new lift kit, and tires along with a very long list of other things. in the middle of replacing the floor pans, just tired of rust, unibodys and reg cab. if anything ill have to swap the 8.8 and 30 back in to sell it and not lose my ***

x2, how hard would it be for to obtain a Ranger while still keeping the Jeep as a project, or???

I'm sure your going to get a lot of people on here saying to get a Ranger. I love mine.

x3, keep the Jeep and get a cheap Ranger on the side as a project. I've always loved comanche's, especially one that's been converted over to the 97+ exterior. Did you do the drivetrain and interior out of the newer Cherokee as well?

im trying to get less vehicles so i can tear down my shed and build a real shop so i can actually build stuff. ill more than likely end up keeping it for a while because of all the $$ ive dropped into it. jeeps havent been selling very good up here lately and most people have just been parting their junk out so that might have to be an option. i like the look of the rangers, and i assume they ride fairly smoothy being TTB? thats the other grip i have with the mj, just havent gotten quality shocks. been looking at fox 2.0, rebuildable and tunable.

i sorta cheated. bought this one with a RE long arm lift, 4.10's and 35" with the 97 swap. drove 5 1/2 hrs to look at it, was stoked because i didnt want to finish the one i had started. after about a week i started realizing how scabbed together it is, expanda foam EVERYWHERE and wiring harness is hacked. but yes it has the 97+ header panel/doors, interior, they tried bondoing the 96- fenders to match the contour but failed, i have 3 sets of 97+ front ends tho lol. the motor is a 99 zj block, and they had it scabbed together with one xj bracket and one tj bracket, had brown dog offroad make their 3rd custom set for this odd application to get it sitting in there solid.

it now has:
ARB front, 4.88 chromos in a rubi 44
detroit full case with same gears and chromos in the rear 44
SYE and terra 2 low
RK 3 link with bilstein shocks
banks header
throttle body spacer
IPF headlights
winch/bumper etc
meteric 33"s
home brewed rocker guards
and more...

JEEP= Just Empty Every Pocket

this is when it was on 35s next to my other one on 31s

thats it for the pictures lol

I would keep the Jeep! Get all your other projects started like the shop and all that and then at a later time get a Ranger, they are cheap and can be found everywhere! If you get rid of that Jeep, you will regret it!

Yup thats an edge. Welcome to the site!

You actually got a better deal because an edge should be more money.

That's a sweet ride right there, I've seen only a few of the pickup style jeeps up here in Canada there is a new one for sale at a local Chrysler dealer on sale for around 60,000 ya 60,000 ish. Londonderry Chrysler if my ranger was paid for I'd trade you mine :)

The new one is the JK8. Super over priced. There is a kit to turn a jKU into a JK8 for about 5k bit still not worth it.
