First Ranger
First Ranger
Hi everyone,
I just bought a 1990 Ranger XLT. 2.9 V6. I've wanted to buy one for as long as I can remember and finally took the plunge. I am a horrible mechanic and would like to learn and get better and I figured working on an old truck would be a good way to do that. Any advice would be welcome. Some things I plan on doing:
-2" body lift up front. I think there is a lift in the back. Not sure. Picture of rear axle attached.
-Replace/Fix speedometer. It bounces like crazy
-Tighten steering if possible
-Add a new bumper and nerf bar
-Put on larger wheels and rims if I can figure out what size is possible
But like I said I'm a horrible mechanic so I have to take this slow and figure out what I'm doing as I go.

Welcome.
Wheels should be easy, someone will correct me but i think they're mostly all the same, 5 lug by 4.5 inches, just remember that any increase in circumference will knock the speedo off (under read)
To tighten the steering, just disconnect the pump, that'll tighten it right up
