First time Ranger Owner Long time grease Monkey!!!

I had no idea when I bought this 2000 5 speed manual transmission with the 2.5L 4cyl Ranger XLT. That the 4 Cel motor took 8 spark plugs, what's up with that..? Anyone tell me why so many spark plugs and is this a dependable good running motor..? It has 261,000 miles on it now and seems to have plenty of power..

the 2.5 is a upgraded version of the 2.3 or 2300 found in mustangs and other vehicles for many years.

The 2.3 or 2.5 are great engines and you can tell by the miles on the truck it must have been somewhat reliable so far.

This truck has a wasted spark system I could try and explain it yet I barely think I understand the system yet trying to explain it would just prove what little I really know about it.

Here is a link that explains it much better than I could.
