2005 Ranger 4x2
Fast idle and slow to return to 1000 rpm also check engine light.
This just started, what could be the cause?

Also.. what motor are you running? But agreed.. go to autozone or something and get the check engine light checked.

I went to autozone they do not check codes any more. A friend is supposed to bring one today Will post the codes as soon as I get them. Thank you for the reply
2.3L 4 cylinder.

I removed the Idle air control valve. I found a foam rubber gasket jammed in the valve.
I have no idea where it came from. I removed it reinstalled the valve and engine runs fine.
so far every thing is OK until the rest of the gasket shows up??

Yep, we just started that in California. Ita because employees were clearing codes for the customer to go to inspection. A big liability issue. We used to be able to read in Cali, but too many disobeyed.
