I've been a member of this forum for a couple of years, but this is my first attempt at a post. I have gleaned a lot of advice and troubleshooting tips regarding my old '96 Ranger over these past months, and I appreciate those that share their experiences.
I "inherited" the truck from my son, who felt that its problems outweighed its worth. I am retired from security work, and needed both a project and a pick-up truck, so I took the vehicle.
It's a black 1996 Ranger Splash, 2.3 L with a manual transmission, rear wheel drive and 235K miles on the odometer.. So far, I've not invested a lot of money into it... maybe a couple of hundred dollars. And I won't invest a lot if, over time, it proves to be a money pit.
I'm a shade tree auto mechanic, not a professional. But I am pretty good at troubleshooting and have a decent set of tools. For 40-yrs I have avoided repair shops and dealerships by taking care of most maintenance needs by myself.
My truck now has a strange issue involving its idle and overall engine performance that I'll share in my next post. Looking forward to interacting with all of you. JR
