Hello all , new member from East TN ...
Just wanted to say hello and look forward to looking around and getting familiar with everything. I am working on a 2000 Ranger xlt stepside , 2.5 auto . My dad bought it to repair and use as his daily driver ( currently has a lil GEO storm 5 speed ) so main concerns will be reliability and gas millage .The truck ran good overall with one major exception , a rod knocking .We have the engine out and have elected to replace it. The # 1 rod was the problem. Very little of the insert /bearing was left and the crank is realistically too far gone to work with .We have had limited options engine wise , just aren't a lot in the yards around here . I considered going with a 2.3 but from what I have read there would be issues with the coolant temp sensor and a few other things. Any advice on using the 2.3 as a replacement ? We have found a 43,000 mile 2.5 for $700 and a 83,000 mile for $600. May just go with one of them . Well I didn't intend to make such a long introduction post but hello and thanks for reading .
