hi, my name is matt, i am from the northeast of argentina, from a province called corrientes, for 8 years i have been serving as a volunteer fireman in a small fire department 25kms away, when i entered i noticed under a tree who i affectionately nicknamed as grandma, an old 2004 Ranger ex Patrol, radiated from service and donated as help to the volunteer corps they found it in the back of an industrial warehouse surrounded by toyotas hilux and they did not hesitate to take it.
Her last trip in service was towing a VW Polo Diesel with a blown engine, for 250 km in summer (here the temperature can easily reach 42° Celsius) with a broken turbo and injectors in bad condition, throwing black smoke as if it were an old locomotive.
When it arrived it was sent to a "mechanic" who ended up stealing parts such as the injector pump, injectors, air conditioning ***** and the air compressor itself.
then from there they took it to another "mechanic" who stole the stereo bezel and cut a lot of wires.
and it was there for 2 years before I arrived, at that time the department suffered a serious lack of budget and we could not afford the repair, for years I was content to keep running our only pumper and keep it clean so it would not be ruined more, and finally last year I got them to finance the repair, now it has a new alternator, injectors, pipes, a rebuilt injector pump, a new turbocharger, belts and belts and a new injector pump, new turbocharger, new belts and fan, I have to finish solving several electrical problems, repair brakes, condition the interior, possibly paint it and I hope to have it in service as soon as possible, so surely I will be consulting you, since the local forums are full of "send it to the dealer", "you should be ashamed to take out the original" and "what oil is best for my engine? ".
As far as I know our South American model shares many things with the North American one, except for the engine, which here was mostly diesel, although there are several V6 4.0.
the grandma is a 1998 line, crew cab, 2wd, which here was manufactured until 2005, International MWM HS2.8 turbo intercooler with 136hp, the engine is a derivation of a 2.5L land rover engine, also sold as maxion 2.5 in the pre 2001 ranger here but which suffered from serious reliability failures.
it is coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox, Eaton model FSO2405 light duty and in the case of ours it is 4x2, in the rear it has a Dana 44.
I leave you some pictures with his young and inexperienced sister.
thank you very much for letting me be part of this forum and may god bless you all.
and god bless you.
