welcome back to R-F, Steve!

knightmare1015 10-06-2008 12:28 AM

Thanks...

Thanks my friends. The reason I'm considering an automatic in my truck is that my left knee is killing me and my last Doctor visit wasn't good. The pric doctor wants me to have another knee surgery and I said oh hell no. It won't help in this situation. It's artheritis that has built up from having too many injuries and knee surgeries.

Welcome back and I feel your pain on that literally. I have arthritis in my left and right knee. A lot worse in my left. It's why I have an auto right now, but surprisingly when I drove a manual for almost 2 years it actually helped build my knee up so and I had fewer issues. So I am highly considering the swap on my truck lol.

Really! Having a 5 speed actually helped you? Kool. less work for me to do later on then. It really kills me when it's about to rain or snow or something but after it starts it calms down some but not much. Maybe thats why it quits hurting after cruising a bit in my truck. Glad to hear from you.

Hey Steve.....have you considered a 700r4? 4spd auto GM trans??

You won't have to deal with typical ford trans issues, can have a built to the balls 700r4, and all you'd need is a driveshaft modification, an adaptor plate between the engine and trans, and possibly a new crossmemeber. I'd put a floor shifter in it.

That is what I had in mind but I found out that I do indeed have to change the rear axle out because that is where my clutch is. It has one of odd ball clutches. When it went out I went under there to adjust it just enough to get it to the dealer and couldn't. That 700R4 is one of the best trannys you get. Plus my mom helped me get the truck and she has yet to drive it because she can't drive a 5 speed. That is the other reason I want an automatic.

what the heck you talking about rear axle clutches?????? Your clutch is located in the bellhousing and is non adjustable(being hydrailic). No need to swap your axle for a 700r4 swap. just your slip yoke on the shaft to one that'll mate into/onto the 700r4. possibly shorten/lengthen of the shaft as well.

Oops wrong thing I looked at and wrong way I said it. sorry about that. Thanks man. What kind of torque converter would you recomend?

Fx4wannabe01 10-06-2008 02:05 AM

hmmm.....

I know there's a few threads involing this swap here and over on rps. I think Wayne was throwing the idea around or maybe he actually did the swap. I'd run like a 1900 stall converter, but thats just me. it's not like there's 500hp going to it. lol..so 1900 might be too high. I've got a 3000 B&M in my chevy that's pumpin 475. I'd check those threads as the converted is something i didn't look too deep into when i was considering the swap.

RedOctober 10-06-2008 02:06 AM

They must have given you some really good pain killer!!

Glad your back!!! What projects you thinking of other than the Tranny?

I can't I got banned from there. one moderatators threatened me over my email and I reported him next thing I know I get banned. Besides there's one cat in there that swore to me a 4.6 liter wouldn't fit in a ranger too. That was B.S. on his part.

Custom Paint and interior, A V8 swap (it's classified and hasn't been done with this engine, I looked and called alot of places too). I was going to do a lift kit but found some Mud Terrain tires over at www.tirerack.com in my stock tire size. Those guys have pissed me off too. They keep calling here wanting me to buy Toyo Tires instead. I'd rather eat a terd than use those damn things. That pain killer they gave me was good and still is. All of that just to see if I needed to go see a specialist. I might have fab my own front clip just to get this monster to fit. Thanks man.

Nope. Wrong engine. This hasn't been done ever. Trust me on this it hasn't. I've searched over 50 search engines, called countless custom hotrod shops and it has NEVER been done in the Ranger. Never. In fact it is considered treason by true ford fans and Chevy hates it with a passion. The last time I had this engine a 522 Twin Turbo Big block chevy wouldn't even race me with it. Neither would a mercury comet owner with a 514 big block in it wouldn't race me either. I'll give you a clue as to who is doing the work for me once I get what I need and I aint saying which one either: www.indyheads.com .

sounds like what ever you have up your sleeve is gonna be pretty slick!!

That is a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 with a centrifugal type supercharger (P-51)

It has only been installed in ONE CAR a 1955 Bel Air. Some dude down under had enough brass to actually do it..

Have fun with the skunk works!!
