long overdue intro(pic heavy)

well, i guess its about time i introduce myself seeing ive been on here about a year now. my names pat, i had a 95 2wd with a 2.3 that i took out a pole with. i probably wont try to sleep and drive again lol. the next day i got a sonic blue 03 xlt 4wd with a 4.0. she ran like a raped ape if i wanted. crashed that one thursday on a bridge thanks to black ice. it happened during the 3rd to 4th gear shift so roughly 35-40 mph and the air bags did not deploy.

i had sas and cummins swap plans for that truck but i MIGHT have to scrap it now. im going to post pics of the damage and see what you guys think. if i can get the cab straight again then it will be back on the road with a twin tube frame (similar to the front half of beards truck), a pair of eb axles that i have with a giant 64 rear kit and 3 link front with 14 inch coilovers. but that is only if i can straighten the cab back out.

so, on to the pics. let me know if you think it can be straightened.
ill start with the drivers side

front

these scuff marks are the reason i never took off the bug guard.

passenger side

door gap comparison

ripple in frame in front of t-bar bracket. kind of hard to see but roughly 3-4 inches in front

stuff i threw in the bed. the flare is 100% fine, go figure. the front hitch is fine as well but take a look at the passenger side tow hook. notice the lack of a tool box? its in the river now.

i think thats all of them. i hope i can fix it but we'll see. we have a little boy due in about a month so ive been looking at the new focus and some used 4 door taco's. id love another ranger but it would have to be a 4 door and nobody in the family wants me to get one. so for now im driving my grandfathers 96 t100, OH JOY!!! stay tuned for project resurrection, or project do over. i still havent decided on a name yet hahaha.

thanks to all you guys on here, you have been a big help diagnosing problems and giving me things to spend all my money on. im going to stick around but i may not have a ranger... for now.

Damage looks pretty bad. Depending upon insurance, might be best to move on.

im 20, and due to a speeding ticket i in the ole 95, i havent been able to afford any more than liability. i intend on getting a car or something for the 3 of us to ride in but i want to pick away at the ranger if it isnt a lost cause. i wanted to make a new frame any way as well as do the suspension work. i can take some more pics of the inner fender supports and post em up tomorrow night if it would help determine the fixability. unless you know someone with a 4 door cab they want to get rid of =)

shes rough. for the cost of repair, id just buy a cab and build what you wanted. that truck is sadly too far gone. as soon as the doors are off, the frame is bent and the front end is ack 10+ inches, shes a goner.

its fixable, but is it worth it? id say no. find a parts truck with a good body, swap what parts you have from the blue to it, and build her up.

oh, quit writing off these trucks! they dont grow on trees anymore! lol.

glad you were ok from that.

how much do you think it would cost to have the cab straightened? im not worried about the frame or the bed in the slightest. like i said, ill just make a new frame and i know a guy at work with a regular cab that i can get a new bed from. my biggest concern is the cab and inner fenders.

what are you looking for andrew? ill see what i can do

It's a sad and everyone is giving their condolences and advice...Then, BAM. What's up. lol jk.

Anyway that sucks dude. Glad you didn't get hurt?

I'm with the others...Have you even got all the details worked out from your insurance? First thing I'd do is concentrate on the growing family. Find out what your going to get to comfortably fit everyone. Whether it be a car for your daily, or that 4 door tacoma your also thinking about. The ranger is to small for you, your gf/wife plus a new born.

With the tacoma you would have your room and have a truck bed. mpg would be worse then a car but it would be a 2 for one. The ranger project is going to take a while. Especially if you are just about to have a new baby.

I'd probably just forget about doing anything to it and buying another one and put the parts from the blue that you want then just get rid of it. Or depending on what the insurance want just buy it back if it's cheap enough... (which it kinda looks like you already have because it's already at your place like that?)...and be awesome and overtime 4 link the front and then do your plans I guess. Personally, I'd just buy a new one.

well, i showed some of the guys at work today and one of them is friends with a guy that works at a collision shop. i gave the guy a call and im going to go show him the pictures tomorrow after work and he is going to come look at the truck in person thursday evening. i guess he has his own frame pulling equipment and what not so we'll see how that goes.

the cab mounts all seem fine so i think it would just need to have the inner fender straightened out, get the passenger side door hanging straight again, put a new front end on it, and get the frame straightened. im hoping $2,000 will cover enough to drive it again.

my girlfriend has been looking at small 4 door cars lately so the whole family transportation thing shouldn't be a problem.

If it's paid off or not it still is insured. So if something gets wrecked they pay you blue book for it. After that if you would like to keep it in most cases they will let you buy it back for a price...Question is...What is that price? If the price is right and you don't mind paying it then the truck is yours again...It looks/sounds like you didn't go threw insurance though.

Ouch. It would be the perfect time to build a stock floor body drop.

well, i talked to the guy at the collision shop and he said that he could straighten out the cab no problem. i guess he can even get brand new inner fenders so we wont have to mess with those. just get the doors to hang and function properly and its good to go. the frame, however, is a whole other story. it could probably be straightened with enough time but the price would be too drastic. so im either going to try to find another frame for 500-800 bucks or purchase a tubing bender, a couple dies, and some tubing to make my own frame. probably go with the latter. sure its going to be expensive but i now plan on getting a car and ill pick away at the truck.

i tried starting it the other night but the only thing that happened was that the solenoid started ticking as if the battery was dead. could that be the problem or does something happen in the ecu during a crash?

ill post a build thread when i get started on it but its going to be a slow build.

If you turn it over and it just does either one click or nothing at all it's generally starter solenoid...or battery is just super, super dead. If you turn it over and it goes tick tick tick tick tick tick then's it's battery. If its turning over and not starting it's either fuel or spark. Or bhg. lol all bad...My toyota truck was awesome and went zzzziinnnnnnngggggggggggg every one in a while due to my starter spinning and not hitting the flywheel because a lot of the teeth on the flywheel where missing. hahaha

I'm sorry I didn't have to say any of that. I just wanted to make noises with typing. P.S. go try jumping it. See if it at least tries to crank or help give the battery a little juice. If that doesn't work jump under the truck if its not turning over at all or making any noise while turning the key and tap the starter/or solenoid with a hammer or something. Lightly though. Has it started since the crash?

its a series if ticks like a dead battery. i just didnt know if there is a sensor or something that tells the computer not to let the engine run for saftey reasons and would have to be reflashed.
