Nathan in Greensboro, NC

Greetings: I bought my '94 4.0 4x4 7' bed Std Cab 5-spd manual Ranger new in '95. Being something of a driving fanatic and having watched the chase scene in "Bullitt" too many times, I came doggone close to turning my black-baby over while trying to do a 180 degree turn backing up and spinning around on DRY pavement. The ground got really large out the drivers side glass before all four tires were back on the pavement - I will not try that again. Sadly I wrecked the girl in '99 and used a company truck for 10 yrs. I had the truck repaired and repainted last year. The Blue oval had never given me one problem or break down through 156,000 mi and the interior is in great condition. However, my pinion gear came apart 2 months ago; replacing a rearend is not as intimidating as it first appears. However, my clutch is chattering now and the T.O bearing has been "singing" for months - dropping the tranny and transfer case will be no joy at all now that old-man winter has arrived. Since my little rig is in great condition and I'm back to turning wrenches on it, I think its past time to get some more power under the hood. I'm considering modding an OHV 6, swapping to SOHC 6, or changing to a V8. But I need to maintain the the 4x4 and manual - you aint driving unless you got stick in your hand. Besides all that, swapping everything over to a mid 90's extended cab is a thought, too.
