need help with an alternator

need help with an alternator

how many amps should i have for my altinator if im going to be running 6 lights.

anybody knows. please help

Go for a 200 if your looking for a high output.. that, or run a dual battery setup if you plan on running them without the truck running at all. make sure you absolutely upgrade the existing wiring to a high gauge, possibly a 2 if you want to make sure its heavy.. including the grounding cable.

Dual batteries will do nothing for drawing excess amps the alternator isn't making. One thing to remember about the high amp alternators is at idle they are only making about 140A.

You need to figure out what the amp draw is for your lights. Then add that to your stock alternator output and get the next largest alternator. With that many lights, I would go with a 200A alternator.
