Hey folks, long time Ford Fan mechanic/tradesman for 40+ years. I've been working on trucks, cars, motorcycles and anything that rolls with a motor since I was 5. My Old Man was a fleet mechanic for Shell Oil so I learned much from him and the rest is self taught and help from many sites like this.
I'm looking forward to hanging out here, helping when I can, contributing where I can and in general hanging out with a group of like minded people. Like I mentioned earlier I'm a mechanic/fabricator/millwright/machinist/pipefitter/electronics tech/writer/photographer/poet/artist... I guess you could call me a modern day renaissance man.
I just picked up a 89 short bed Ranger with a 2.9L V6 auto trans, 2WD with 100,000 miles on it for $1,000 dollars. Other than needing a new paint job, a walnut size ding above the passenger side tail light and a trans, (which a replacement came with the truck, I just have to put it in) it's perfect, the cab mounts and bed mounts are all good, all the body lines are straight, the gaps in the doors and between the cab and bed are all even and parallel. No rattles, nothing missing, nothing modified, all original, all stock. :) I'm so stoked that I found this truck.
So here's my first official question, being an 89' with the 2.9L V6 in the condition I've described, did I make a wise choice and did I get a good deal?
Like I said earlier, I'm looking forward to participating in this forum with the fine folks who inhabit this place.
Anything I can help with let me know, thanks for letting me join now it's of to explore the pages of Ranger Forums.
See y'all 'round the forum,
Ted E. (~);-}

Ran the motor, idles smooth, no condensation in the oil, no leaks other than the trans that's cooked.
I've been reading that most trans failures especially with the A4LD were due to the trans overheating. Is there a HD trans cooler available? Is there a cooler for a towing package that's available?
