new guy from Connecticut

I have owned a couple Rangers and I'm in the middle of a frame off rebuild of my 89 Ranger extended cab. Some bumps in the road has made it a long project but I've been working on it a lot lately do I figured I'd join and get some ideas or feed back as what I am doing wrong or right.

So far I have rebuilt a dana 44 and 9" out of a early bronco with 4.56 gears spool in the rear for now(still need to do the disc brake conversion). The front has a posi, 4340 chrome moly axle shafts, Reid Racing high steer knuckles, Stage 8 X-LOCK locking spindle nuts and solid industries diff cover. Drive train is going to be a roller 302 with 10.5 to1 compression once I come up with those funds.I have all headers, intake, carb or F.I. (have both on the rack) and HEI billet distributor already but I refuse to just throw any 302 in until I rebuild it. Be Cool radiator for the cooling with an electric fan. I rebuilt a NP 205 transfer case and converted it to twin stick while I was in there. I have a T-18 which I will rebuild as soon as the rebuild kit comes off of back order. As far as the suspension goes I have all James Duff in the front. 5.5" progressive rate coils for a 1/2 ton and 2wd F150 springs in the rear. Tires are TSL's 38.5 x12.5r15. The truck had 289,xxx on it when I pulled it off the road(and trail). I didn't expect to go this extreme with it but why not. I found a week spot on the frame so I found a frame 4 1/2 hours away with 200 miles on it that Ford donated to a college and the school recently junked it so I got lucky to find it. Just sand blasted that and painted it last week.So.... I still have a ton of work ahead of me.

I like the windsor 302's but i love the boss....can you throw a boss 302 in there or maybe the 351?
and amen to the rear brake conversion-think im decided not to do it just because im told it really isnt that big of a difference (besides the cool factor)

wow 290thou...what motor was in it?

thats the project of my dreammms hah itll be worth it in the end.

I have the engine already. Actually 3. The one I'm using is a roller motor. I rebuilt a set of junk yard gt-40 heads off of a 95 Cobra that was rolled over. I'm running disc brakes for the functionality. Drum brakes are awful when they are full of mud or wet. The original motor was a 2.9. still ran when I yanked it. Actually it's in a Bronco II now! Lady blew her head gasket and destroyed he engine on the highway so I offered that to her.

so you do have a 5.0 for it? thatll be sweet! i would love to do that with my truck but its far past my knowledge and skills and my wallet wont allow it ha. but this is true with the drums, im pretty sure i hate them, actually hate the stopping power of my truck all around.
