Hello my name is dobie. New to this. I have an 03 ranger with the 4.0 and am going to install a jet chip. Can this be done without me disconnecting the battery and will I be able to remove the ecm without losing power to the fuse panel or ignition?

While I am not familiar with that specific mod, a general rule of thumb is to disconnect the battery before doing anything to the drivetrain or electrical system.

And Hi.

I don't think you'd safely get away with this whilst powered, however i'm not sure the PCM has power with the ignition off and that's all you're unplugging to fit this.

Curious if it actually works well though.

well it has power only for memory. the memory was supposed to be reset while the install was done. I think this was the biggest reason it had to be disconnected. once I get to run with this for a week or two I will post results. I was trying to get fuel economy. right now with the 4.0 with cold air intake and headers I am getting max 20mpg.
