Hello All, Just signed up, I'm looking into buying a used Ranger 2001 or newer, I've been a Ford man my entire life, Up until now all F-series, My current truck is a 97 F-350 CC 4X4 Powerstroke, that I tow my RV with and I need a smaller truck for the wife to drive to tow/haul our ATV's Trying to find info on what problems to look for and which engine to get. Thanks in advance. Gruss

 

For as much as I will back up the 3.0, I would get a 4.0.

 

Can't go wrong with the 4.0L... just skip the 01/02's and get '03 or newer. I think that's when the timing chain issues were figured out!

And yeah, I would say go or the 4.0 SOHC. Good stuff.

 

Welcome. Avoid the 01-02 4.0 like the bubonic plague! nice little timing chain issue that when it goes, its takes the whole engine with it.
