UGGGGHHH!

I have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, but I am still not pumping fuel. I have removed the fuel line behind the filter, nothing is coming out. I have tested the wiring and relay, have power to the relay, but it seems that the power is not reaching the pump, have tested that with same test light.. nothing at the pump. I did have issues with the relay prior to it not starting all together. I replaced the fuel filter and pump. I also took out the fuses and cleaned, and the relay is new as well, still no power to the pump. This is a 1995 ford ranger xl, 6 cylinder 4.0, 5 speed. I was thinking of running a jumper to the pump, to see if my distribution box is bad, i have had to tap the fuel relay before to get it to start. I know someone has been into before, the tabs holding the wiring pack to the fuel is broken, have fixed that... what can I do from here. Am at a lose, i have good turnover just not getting power to the pump?

i know this is a electrical problem.. Is there a ground wire at the tank, that I may have forgot? I did not remove one that I am aware of. Is there something I am overlooking..

I apologize for posting here, I could not find where or how to post in the appropriate place..

Welcome to the forum pam

All Rangers have the same fuel pump power setup

Fuse(engine fuse box)---------Fuel Pump relay------------------inertia switch(in cab)------------Fuel pump

In the passenger side of the cab above the carpet and below the glove box is the Inertia switch, it can also be behind the passenger kick panel.

Looks like this: http://www.explorerforum.com/photopo...ut_off_WEB.jpg

Has a RED reset button at the top

This switch has a weight inside, if there is a sudden stop, accident, or a rollover, then weight will move and CUT POWER to fuel pump.

Once it is "tripped" RED button can reset it to move the truck a short distance, many reuse them, but it won't be reliable

Testing
Pull out the fuel Pump relay
key OFF, you should have one 12volt slot in the relay socket, thats the Fuse power, on all the time
Turn on the key, should now have a 2nd slot with 12volts, thats the relays Coil power

Put relay back in

Find inertia switch
Either wire at inertia switch should have 12volts, but ONLY for 2 seconds when key is turned on.
So hook up test light to Ground and one of the terminal wire on inertia switch
Cycle key on and off as many times as you want, to see if you are getting the 12volts for 2 seconds.

At the fuel pump you have the same ONLY 2 seconds of power for testing.

Once engine starts fuel pump power is on full time, but only after engine starts
