ABS Disable switch added to radio bezel

This is my modified radio bezel with the new ABS Disable switch. Just waiting on some relay sockets to arrive so I can wire it up. The bezel also has switches added for driving lights and heated mirrors.

The upper switch is an Explorer rear window defrost switch that has been turned upside down to match the contour of the left side of the bezel. This switch will eventually be used for heated mirrors.

The switch in the middle, above the lighter, is a Traction Control Disable part from an 05 Explorer/Expedition. It will become an ABS-Disable switch on my truck - I think the icon is close enough.

Since it was designed for a flat surface, I had to alter the contour of the bezel where it mounts, using plastic wedges and body filler. The switch sits a little below the surface to help prevent accidental use.

The switch has a dash illumination LED and an "OFF" LED as well as a momentary on switch.

Thanks, John! It was fun doing the sculpting - I haven't done anything with body filler in years.

Yeah, Darwin Awards admits that they got taken in by a hoax on that one. It says so on that link I posted.

It is still a funny story, though.

For comparison, I found this photo of the original bezel as it came from the factory:

Very very cool. Are the switches functional at this point? I'd like to hear more about the heated mirrors. What did you jack them off of?

To wire the ABS switch, I am waiting on an order of relay sockets which are due here Tuesday. I don't have the heated mirrors yet. I'll either get them from Muth ($$$) or try to adapt something else.
