Been seriously comtemplating this lately. Ive been wantin to chop the roof on my sport much the same way a bronco is. Does anyone know if there is a company that sells or makes a softtop for this type of application. Ive already got a full internal cage planned so I just need a top. Any help or ideas would be great.

What if you rigged it up to where you could put the stock roof back on? I dont know how safe that would be driving down the road but it would be a cool idea!

Ive seen pics of fullsize broncos and blazers with softtops on them so I know they exist somewhere I just cant find any info on this. Im also trying to think of a way to have the doors come off quickly like a jeep. Its perfectly legal there just has to be a 6 inch lip at the bottom of the door sill for it to pass inspection. I believe jeeps only have a 4 inch lip. Long story short I wanna be able to drive around with the top and doors off in the summer. And bieng that this is no longer my daily driver its time to make it happen.

 

i'm sure if you find one of the companies that makes them for scouts, blazers, broncos, 4 runners.. they may be able to custom make you one

I have an explorer right now with a cavas back on it. Had it made at a boat shop out of Canvas.

 

U build a frame for it, and drive it to an upgolestry shop to have them cover it in vinyl. Sweeet idea.

 

Doesn't the term "back-halved" refer to the removal of the frame and suspension and making it custom. What your talking about is just a chop job.

 

Back halving the body. Like cutting it in half. Get it? Thats not a bad idea about going to a boat shop. I live right on Seneca lake so thats defiently a possibility. Im sure I can find something around here. I wasnt aware they did that. Between this and my sas swap this thing is gonna be great.

 

You want to remove the roof, that is not backhaving. Backhaving is when you cut the frame off behind the cab and replace it with tube.

 

I had a 1985 S-10 blazer that I did the same to. I followed the side window lines and hacked off the roof. I purchased a custom built cover that was similar to a tonneau cover with a rear window. This obviously wasn't practical because the rear seat was folded over and unusable with the cover on. However when the cover was off you could fold the seat up and run similar to a converable. The cab was still intact and reinforced but the rear was very vulnerable if anything were ever to happen. I went to a place called "Superior Interiors" in hooksett New hampshire with what I wanted and the built it for me. I no longer have any pics but it was very interesting. The 36" swampers were too much for the 2.8 with a 4 speed so I sold it off. It got a ton of attention back then though ( 10 years ago now)
