here is what you are looking for http://www.truckcandy.com/TC/TruckBedz/TruckBedz.htm
Just go to wal-mart/any sporting goods store and find yourself a twin-size inflatable mattress. I have a swiss army inflatable that I just used for the first time 2 weeks ago. I think I paid $20 or $30 bucks for it at wal-mart in 07. I inflate it, put a non-rated plain ole sleeping bag over it and then use my 20°F rated sleeping bag as a blanket. I couldn't be any happier.
The other option is getting a bed tent.

As for the twin fitting within your bed, just measure the width between your wheel wells and the length of your bed. Inflatable mattresses should have the dimensions of the mattress on the box. The twin I have just barely fits in my bed length wise, but fits perfectly between the wheel wells. I'm still able to close my tailgate with the inflated mattress in it if I'm very careful when closing it. When I found this out Memorial Weekend I researched for the above truck bedz. I felt they were a little steep IMO so I'll stick to my cheapo inflatable twin.

I threw my old twin size mattress in the back of my SB fleetside once. It was like 2-3 inches too long but i could close my tailgate if I curved the mattress up a little. We had an old tent with those fiberglass tent rods that I could curve and put in my bed stake holes, it looked like an old wagon, when I pulled a tarp down over the fiberglass rods, but it worked like a champ. The only problem now is that I cant sleep in a shortbed with the tailgate up(too tall).. my old longbed was great, i slept underneath the tonneau in that once, it was snug rolling over because of having broad shoulders, but it was possible. Plus, I slept outside underneath the stars and had sunshine wake me up, everyone else at the party was sleeping on the floor in the house, uncomfortably. I had a sleeping bag, pillow, etc :)
I never thought to look for a twinsize air mattress though, I wonder if that'd work for a stepside bed or not?
