Whats up everyone i have a 2002 ranger 2.3l XLT i have the stock wheels on the truck and want to get a different look to my rims and eventually get Wrangler's or KM2's i want to black out the wheel but leave the center chrome they are the factory 7 spoke or whatever you call them wheels and its like they have this chrome faceplate on them my buddy calls them imposters and i just waned to know if and how i can remove the faceplate off the wheel (btw the weights for balancing the wheel are on the outside of the faceplate so i would have to remove them too if i took the cover off)

well since someone here just wants to be an *******. i think you have the wheel covers im not sure but the wheel weights should be on the wheels not the covers so you shouldn't have to take them off

I do have pics but i will have to wait until im home until i can post them the weight is on the outside and i know that the covers can comeoff because when i put my finger on them i can feel the back of the wheel there is a lip between each spoke and i can move it a tiny bit like it should just pop off but it wolnt

 

Do you mean the center cap? The end piece for the jack has a rubber piece at the end. Stick that into the slot and either push down or up, cant really remember. Either that or use a flat head.

honestly im not sure what i should put on there but i have seen a ranger around town with nitto grapplers and i thought the guy had a 6 but i asked him and he had a 4 so i hoped i could do something similar

No im talking about the faceplate on the wheel i have no idea how else to explain it ill post pics and hopefully that will clarify it for ya'll

 

i mean hell you could have boggers, but if you're not taking it into the mud, just get some All-terrains. You get the aggressive look, they're cheaper, and you get to go bigger tires if you want.

 

oh boy the way i drive that poor truck when im goin fishin i mean through shallowed up canals and dried up canals oh boy i just recently had to replace the clutch after about 81000 miles im pretty sure it was bout time anyways

 

get some all terrains, or wranglers. don't get mud terrains

Did you ever figure out what the deal was with your rims?

It sounded like you have those chrome "skins", but when you said that the wheel weights were on the skins themselves, it didn't sound right (unless some hack at the tire shop put them on wrong).

Your 4cyl will have fun with bigger tires but many ppl have done it.

 

Oh i already know that he did it wrong some duma$$ at the jiffylube also striped the oilpan drain plug screw so i had to replace it (it wasnt me that took it to the jiffylube) but idk i think when i get bthe new tires then i wil try more agressive things to get them off

 

thank you for the link i called the guy and he suggested 225's isthat a good size tire i dont know much about this stuff yet but im slowly learning

 

I have an 08 Ranger 4Cyl. and i put 30x9.5 BFG AT's on my truck on the stock rim so you shouldn't have much of a problem.

 

225's are skinny. a 245ish width tire will be around a 10.5 inch. (roughly)

Are you sure your wheels have the chrome skins on there? From your pic they look like the real chrome ones. My 04 had the skins on there and i remember them being less 'defined' than the ones in your pic. Theres no way a wheel weight would attach to them either. They would have to be on the wheen when he was mounting them and balancing the tires and i doubt he could have gotten the tire on there without snapping the chrome falsies. (with the big spades and pry bars they use and all..)

Here was my 04 with the falsies. They dont look as defined around the lip of the rim as yours do. (note the giant piece missing out of it from curb rash... they arent very durable)

 

im like 90% sure they are the false ones ill take the wheel off this weekend and take defined pics then get ya'lls opinions on them i dont really like them either cuz when i wash the truck a bunch of sand and crap comes out of there so i know its not just rim there cuz i can kinda peel it away from the wheel i can feel where metal ends and plastic takes over i just wanted to kno if i could remove them and how

 

idk about the tire width i wouldnt mind it rubbing a bit i just want to know what the besst size is that will look good and not kill my truck
