Icon5 custom ladder/canoe carrier

So my father has a set of yakima ladder racks from his old f150 off the topper.
I was thinking of making a way for me to mount them in the bed rails but make them removable so i can take them out when i need to put my bike in there.
Has anybody ever done this before? Do you thing it would be able to hold some weight not much more than say 150lbs or less.
What do you type of material do you all think would be best to support them, ie. Wood or aluminium ? I dont really have a lot of cash to throw around currently so i was leaning toward some nice wood ones.
Tell me what you think all comments welcome.
Thanks

Yes this is something I need as well, 2 12ft kayaks need to go all over Texas this summer. I'm thinkin square tubing to stick in the corners of the bed just like a ladder rack. Any luck?

It might be all custom fab. I know they sell a bed rack system as my buddy has one for his Toyota.
Fiddies are wider then ours so that's where the custom might come into play.

I'd probably sell them and buy a ladder rack that fits the ranger bed posts. Have seen a few kayaks in them down here, I trailer mine cause I don't want to lift it that high... Might be easier than the fab work...

I seen a haulmaster rack in the harbor frieght paper not to long ago for 99 bucks. its only good for 250LBS but i wont ever need it to be more than that anyway. I lookied into buyin steel but it may cost that to buy it, plus my time is worth quite a bit so i swing down and take a look at them first!
