There was a guy a while back that put a 6.0 in his Ranger and made it a drag truck. You should do that!

if you were going to spend the time and money to do it I would go further than a 6.0 and either a 6.4 or 6.7 but I dont really think it would be worth the work. Maybe a turnkey ecoboost??

I'm not crazy about the 4bt. It's underpowered and just seems like kind of a turd. If I'm gonna drop a new engine in my truck I want to see some significant changes in power and torque and just over all performance. I like the 6.4 idea tho! They have crazy power! 6.7 would be nice but expensive. I could get a 5.9 cummins for dirt cheap so that's not a bad option. I'm really interested in fords new 3.2 powerstroke. That would be ideal I think for a ranger. I'm also interested in internationals 4.5 two stage turbo engine they put in fords a while back. They are hard to come by tho. Idk this is all discussion. Thoughts?

Any or all of those options will be pricey!! By the time you factor in the costs of a 6.4 you could make one killer 4bt. Plus the weight would be less and the overall fitment would be better. I am not sure how wide a 6.4 is but its BIG.

That dude that did the 6.0 had to make ridiculous modifications to the truck to make it fit. It's not practical for most weekend modders by any stretch of the imagination.

the guy that put the 6.0 in also built that thing to the hilt and couldnt keep it together. im pretty sure he has since sold it because it would break almost every time it went down the track. a stock motor would definitely be different.

in my opinion your best bet is probably the 4bt. I have seen a 6 cylinder cummins swapped in to a ranger, but im pretty sure he had to make some serious firewall modifications.

as far as the 6.4 aspect, i cant imagine that even fitting without extensive frame and sheetmetal work. the motor is huge, not to mention everything attached to it. the radiator, intercooler, and other cooling elements are huge, and tall for that matter, fitting that stack alone behind the grille/bumper/under the hood would be next to impossible. then the transmission behind the motor plus the transfer case. thats a long package. then youll have to do axles, because a tuned 6.4 would shred the 8:8 in the ranger. so youd probably be looking at a 1 ton sas as well..

so yeah.. 4bt. or i like the ecoboost idea as well. or the new coyote 5.0.

i know all you og's already know this, jsut trying to put it into perspective for the op

I have read an article in Diesel Power Mag about a 5.9 (I believe 12v?) Cummins powered Ranger. I'll see if I can find it.
UPDATE I found it
