It can look cool, One of My friends over at the General Lee website did one to an 86 in Texas and I think it looks Bada** Not really needed for anything but still a neat showtruck.

The gen 1 and gen 2 rangers don't look horrible with the dually, but it isn't really necessary. But I don't think it would look good on a gen 3 and up ranger.

graniteguy 02-13-2006 09:00 PM

I do. if it's done right. I would skip the dual wheels and just put some fatties on the back. I would put a stepside skin on the wide bed to get the width. Lower it.

Speaking of...

I saw a duelly ranger today come to think of it! It was an older maybe late 80s box style model. I thought it was awesome cause ya dont see it every day. It looked like it came from the factory that way and not modified or made. It was in Anchorage, AK by the way.

telemaster1952 02-15-2006 07:22 AM

duelly with a powerstroke conversion would be the greatest thing ever

on an older box sytle ranger

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I just joined up here.

Dtapes - Do you happen to remember the details of that dually you saw. Color, ect?

Actually, I started with a little less than that. Finals for the semester are over, give me a few days and I may finally get pics posted.

And that is utter bullsh**. My 4.0 has pulled a broken-down fullsized Bronco *WITH a race car trailer* up to speeds where the driver was tapping his brakes to get me to slow down.

With my overloads I have (more than once) put 20 bags of concrete in the bed (80 pounds a piece, do the math)

So, tell me again about the power here?

i think it would be sweet to do that and have a full size dually along side for shows and such

mcmurr 01-09-2007 10:51 PM

see to me, when someone asks if they should build a dually ranger, i just assume that they arent even thinking about the towing. no KIDDING the ranger doesnt have the power to make use of a dually rear end. to me, its more of a project, and could make a mean looking little truck. just forget the towing/hauling part. sure, you could custom build a wider bed or something, but honestly. when someone throws out a more abstract idea such as this, and wants to mess around with an older truck and have some fun, im all for it. id even drive out to help.
not bashing anyone's opinions and everyone is entitled to their own, BUT sometimes, more abstract ideas may not have any purpose but to be fun, and an adventure.

GO FOR IT!

Freelander 01-17-2007 08:59 AM

I photoshopped my old Ranger into a dually last year...I don't have the original pic of it but I do have a very small version:

How is it slammed? If he took out the springs and put in airbags your right, But if he hust lowered it without lowering the payload capacity, he improved it as a utility vehicle. IMO a 4x4 dually is a waste, the Lower center of gravity and less rolling resistance makes it a better tow rig, plus Duallys sink like a stone in mud.
