take a loot at your MAF, in 04 most of them are built into the airbox, so as far as an intake, youre going to just have to do the airbox mod, or get a different MAF as well. there are a couple of companies that make headers i think, i cant remember the name right now, but headers are a big buck mod. you may want to consider get a performance tuner if your looking for some oompf

i can see the general consensus is for the flows... but i have a SI/DO gibson, and it sounds awesome. Nice deep rumble at idle, and sounds great in the lower RPMS. when you stomp on the gas it really barks. good for highway driving too because it's not as loud as some (although i've never hear a set of flows on a 4.0).

my $0.02

The problem I have encountered with Flowmasters is the droning in the cab at certain rpms. I don't know if all Flowmasters do it. Gibsons don't do that, at least mine doesn't. I have a pair of Flowmasters on my 69 Fairlane Cobra 428 CJ that I would love to get rid of.

OK OK I see lots of people here who say they have the Flowmaster 40. What all is the Flowmaster 40...because according to their website they only offer a 40 Series Muffler that will work on our trucks...is that all you guys have?

I mean if I'm spending the money, I'm spending $400 and getting a Gibson or Magnaflow Stainless Steel Cat-Back system. Which they make for X-Cab 01-05 Rangers.

i have had four different kinds of exhaust... Gibson SUCKS donkey *****.. sorry..

And on the Flowmaster 40, its not the ONLY muffler that works on the truck, and if you havent heard, thier custom muffler shops that would run the piping for you, for the fraction of a cost of a gibson on a website.Thats what everyone is doing.

Flowmaster 40 is the loudest, then theres the quiter delta series, and the 50 i think is even quiter than that. Not too much though.

flow = loadest and most aggressive this side of straight piping
borla = mellower more throaty rumble
gibson = to me, ricey.

never heard dynomax before.

I loved my Gibson on my 3.0l, but I have to agree with Leo's sentiment on the 4.0l. He's had more exhaust systems on his truck than anybody here...

I have a 4.0 SOHC and have been looking for an exhaust system for 6 months. I've heard flows, gibson, magnaflow and borla.

After hearing them all I liked the borla the most (Leo's) but I can't seem to hold on to the cash to get the muffler and piping installed.

My input is that flows sound good in the low rpms, magnaflow and gibson are mores quiet and borla sounds good throughout the rpm range.

ya goo flowmaster 40, 3 days after i bought my 4.0 5spd i had it put in single in dual out custom and it rumbles so wonderfully!!!! i love downshifting and letting it just rumble and growl. sounds like a mean *** v8 and on the freeway isn't too loud unless i kill it above 3500rpms...i cant wait for an intake and headers to really set off the sound
