how's this for a cheap in bed super low profile tool box?

super perfect width. completely weather tight.

really considering getting rid of my slim kobalt box lol. I HATE hauling my quad with the tailgate down and these are strong enough to easily set the front tires on top

I'm guessing you nay-sayers will point out the locking issue lol.BUT there are a few companies out there that make locking brackets for ammo cans.

tie down would be a moot point with my rubber bed mat. the box weighs 70lbs and I figure I have about 100lbs of equipment.Nobody will want to run off with that hahahaha

DeepSouthRanger 05-08-2011 03:37 AM

What you going to do with the Kobalt box??

darangerdanger 05-08-2011 09:25 AM

Probably put it in one of my friends trucks

RazorsEDGE 05-08-2011 09:45 AM

It looks like it would be a PITA to use as a truck box.

darangerdanger 05-08-2011 10:47 AM

I agree it's not the easiest access. But not THAT bad lol.

rangerstepside 05-10-2011 10:50 PM

omg yes! love this idea

btm757 05-10-2011 10:55 PM

I think this would be perfect for me if it fit my steppie :(

darangerdanger 05-10-2011 11:20 PM

how wide are the steppies? the box is only 48''....

btw. ordered it lol. figure even if i don't like it in the truck i'll throw it in the utility trailer haha

darangerdanger 05-10-2011 11:24 PM

nvm lol. that sucks for ya!

hurley 05-11-2011 05:51 AM

Not bad for a hundred bucks

Scrambler82 05-11-2011 07:15 AM

If a steppie the box may not sit flush to the bottom of the bed.

Other than that, “small" is the only word I can think of.

If it fits what you need and the truck then do it.

bonez 05-17-2011 11:29 PM

looks cool..i know you said its heavy, but do you have it mounted in there somehow?

Dirty Ranger 05-17-2011 11:36 PM

Thats sick , i want one . be perfect to put my 50cal ammo chain and strap boxes in and come alongs and farm jack , i think imma look into this

darangerdanger 05-17-2011 11:44 PM

it's not secured as of right now but i'm gonna run L brackets off of the bed bolts and bolt the box in that way.just to be safe lol. not only for theft but on the off chance i gotta lock the brakes up!

honestly for the $140 shipped it WAYYYYY more solid than anything more traditional. i weigh 200 lbs and i jumped on it a bit and it didn't give at all!

btm757 05-18-2011 12:44 AM

I might have to get me something like this

darangerdanger 05-18-2011 01:03 AM

forgot to mention best part lol....had a tag inside signed off saying "all explosives have been removed" LMAO!!!!

Any thoughts of painting ?

Also, off-topic, the bed-extender can you post some pics of the mounting, thks.
Send them to me or post somewhere else if you don’t want to F-up this thread.

Very nice. Theres one of those on the local CL for $40, just missing the seal.

98liftedranger 05-18-2011 08:31 AM

Looks pretty good installed.

darangerdanger 05-18-2011 08:38 AM

About the seal....haha. its not just a strip of foam like a regular tool box would have. The small ammo cans have a skinny rubber gasket to seal it up. This thing has a 1/2" gasket ! Seals up tight enough that there's actually a pressure release valve for altitude changes :D

darangerdanger 05-18-2011 08:44 AM

Grev I'll get pics of the brackets for the extender sometime today for ya!

And for paint....

I'm at LEAST lining the inside with some spray on liner, maybe the outside as well. Or I might do winter camo just for giggles lol :)

It will be getting paint of some sort though. I'm thinking if I got pulled over having a box with explosives warnings and what not might end up with 4 or 5 more cops and a bomb squad lmao

This thing sounds tight (literally). I wants one haha. I have been thinking about a toolbox or bed box for awhile now.

Masteratarms93 05-18-2011 10:05 AM

yeah I'm looking into black plastic bed boxes, I don't really like over the rail toolboxes.
