You're opening a can of worms.

Some say stock. Some say K&N.

I have an Airaid, I got it years ago, I used to get 19 mpg's when I got my truck, now I get about 20-21. It may just be because that when I hear the whistle, I ease up on the gas.

Honestly, do what you want, but you're going to get a lot of differing opinions

tube is tube. it doesnt matter if its k&n or ebay unless you require a carb sticker but even then not worth it for name brand.

Heck all you need is the filter and you can pull the air box off and clamp the filter on.

As far as brand it's all a matter of opinion. I say best bet is stay away from ones that require oil.

I second this opinion about the oil.

Get an oil free filter. Stock is fine though.

Yeah, a mandrel bent pipe is a mandrel bent pipe, just because it doesn't come with some sw33t st1ck3rz fo yo ride doesn't mean it isn't any good.

It's rediculous to pay $100 bucks for a piece of pipe with a filter you can buy for $30.

Yeah, definitely get a dry one.

Like Justin said, this is a can of worms to be opened! I too have thought about this and like Kevin says, try to stay away from the filters that require oil, it can lead to bad things on your MAF sensor. What I did was to cut off the bottom half of my filter box and soon hope to get a drop-in filter from AEM. I don't do any off-roading and it is my daily driver. I have the 4.0 on my '02 XLT 2wd and am getting close to 20mpg.

i have a k&n in my 3.0, been in about 2 years now have had no problems at all. If you dont soak the filter in oil it will be fine! there again i also let my filter sit a while before i put it back on my truck.

I run K&N, just let the filter dry after you oil it and you will be fine. But I also run an outerwear over it to make sure i don't get any sand down in to the engine
