Just for you '07+ guys.....Auxilary switch for lights, etc....
Hey.
I came up with this while Cory(cory07ranger4x4) and myself were installing KC's on his truck. Actually...I came up with this after he had left.
I used my stock '01 airbag switch panel w/ the little cubby. I havn't used it since I converted to a "smoker's package" ashtry ones to mount my cb. Anywho.....I used two 1/2 ID x 7/8 OD 14ga machine washers for the old switch hole location as the hole is too big for my 1/2" hole switch. The light is just slid right into where the old "OFF" lense was. I just popped that "OFF" lense off using a box cutter. There will have to be some electrical tape of something to make the OD of the lamp bigger to fit the hole just right and to make it stay where it needs to be.
It's an excellent idea for the '07+ folks who don't want to drill holes in their new truck....and it's a direct swap from the stock "big cubby" black one. Just spray mine black, and it'll match, and also cover up the text for what used to be there.
While taking pics, I came up with another idea....which i will perform tomarrow, and post pics tomarrow after i'm done.
Anywho....on with the pics...

Thats actually not too shabby at all... I've been meaning to install an auxillary toggle for my ABS.. ****ing ABS nearly got me slid into an active intersection during this winter from some inch deep slush that the truck obviously didnt like. That, and eventually I plan on getting some fogs put in behidn the front grille after I get a new front end, preferably aluminum.

I did something similar. Only its for the Air Conditioner, My truck didnt come with an ash tray, so I took the whole thing apart, and cut a hole in the top of that cubby with a soldering iron, then, I took a piece of scrap galvanized sheet metal, and made a little plat to go over the factory opening. Drilled 2 holes and put in some screws to hold the plate in place. It works out perfectly, and I have enuff room for a few more switches...
this is the top of that cubby.
this is the lil plate I made to fit over the hole where the ashtray would usually go... (the vaccuume under it is a second generation 5 gal vacume my dad made before u could even buy a 5 gal shop vac)
heres the modded cubby. you can see the two lil holes on the face... and the hole I cut in the top. I cut the hole nice n big so that i could get wires in there easily in the future
the finished product:
the passenger air bag switch is there incase you ever need to carry a child saftey seat. Or, if you wanna carry small children or a dog, you can turn the air bag off. This is something I would recommend keeping that option open, and not disable that switch..
Now as far as where to mought the extra lights switch... I had mine right next to my fog light switch, under my radio....
the KC switch is the one on the right
But because I use the lights alot, even though I live in a residential area, I have found that, the switch is too far away to easily, and quickly turn the lights off...
So I decided to move the switch over to where my head light switch is. This way i can rest my arm on the door and my finger near the switch, so when I gotta turn the lights off, its very easy...
I personally use 14awg outdoor extension cord for all my wiring needs. Includes 3 wires, in a nice neat easy to work with package.
So there ya have it, hope this helps.
