massive ranger??
massive ranger??
im thinking of getting another ranger(play toy) and i want it to be massively huge. tell me what yall think of this here goes
gen 1 ext cab 4x4
swap motor for 460 ci
automatic powerglide tranny
divorced t cases with super low granny gear
for the axles - dana 60 under the front with l/s 3-55
GM corparate 10 bolt in rear w/brake
rear is also getting 3-55
the truck wil have 22 inches of lift leaf sprung under axle
rolling stock will be 49 in boggers with 20 in dubs (bling bling)
gonna have big ol stacks right behind rear tires
move gas tank to bed for greater clearance
this is gonna be the most awesomeist trail rig EVER
what do yall think of that

49's are overkill for a trail rig...
and no offense, that seems a little too much and way too costly...
all you need is a little truck, locked front and back... enough clearance, powere, and teh right axles/gears for 37's and you should be able to go anywhere...

gen 1 ext cab 4x4 - good idea
swap motor for 460 ci - bad idea
automatic powerglide tranny - bad idea
divorced t cases with super low granny gear - good idea
for the axles - dana 60 under the front with l/s 3-55 - good idea but needs more gear

better version:
-same body
-351 stroked to 392
-C6 trans
-keep, might want married...less moving parts
-D60 good, 3:55s bad
-10 bolt bad, think 14 bolt, 9" rear (my choice) or 10.25" rear
-3:55s to high
-spring under = no flex, 4" lift with shackle reverse and fender trimming.
-tires WAY to big. think 35-38s
-personal prefernce but not a good idea IMO
-do it
wut do you mean you cant have too much power? you can have all the power in the world and not be able to do a thing without the suspension, gearing, drivetrain to get it to the ground. even after it hits the ground and you get stuck or something that power will only dig you deeper. so unless youre entering tuff truck to pull that dump truck up the hill, go a bit smaller on the power issue.
and 49s arent too bad but 49" boggers are. go with a michelin for that.

10 bolts are JUNK, thats why. they're weaker than a dana 44. 14 bolt is the way to go.
also a 460 in a ranger...to much work plus the weight balance will be to front heavy. a 351 will shoehorn in nicely plus u can stroke that summa***** to a 427 if u want and make some good power.

Yea a 10 bolt is way too weak I have seen 300hp 350 gernade one. With a dana 60 in front that would be a complete miss match. And the truck would probley be impratical for anything but mud boggin. The ford 9" is a good choice for that set up.
ive got a friend who has a friend who has a brother that can get rockwells for like 300 bucks an axle. is that good or am i wasting my money?? should i get rid of my 10 bolt i have now and get them rockwells??

PS - sway bars are a biyatch on a trail.
Back to the issue at hand, if I swap a ranger body onto a big bronco frame, is it really a ranger? Or would it be a big rango? Branger maybe? If I swap the body, would I need to bob the bed?
A 460 would not be too much power, it is all in the driver, if I have a light foot, the 49s wont dig, and even if I do dig, boggers will find a bottom to the goo.
Would a body lift work well with this setup? Maybe set up a torsion bar setup instead of coil or leaf springs, cranked to the max, of course, with a small block in the rear for ride quality. I think 22 in lift leafs are a pain to find and stiff as hell, but no one will look at that, its a ranger (possible body only) on 49 inch boggers with blangin dubs, a 460 pushing the beast.

Depending on wat year u wanna do this to it better not have IFS or u wont be able to go that big. the biggest lift for 4x4 IFS rangers is 5 " supension thats. it i looked, unless u do an axel swap and some custom fabing and lots of cash spending u wont ever get clearence to spin 49's
IFS...forget bout it.
again, 460 is nice but a 351 stroker is a better fit and the weight balance will be better.
why are u so hell bent on 49s? unless ur driving though 5 foot bogs or climbing boulders 35-38s are perfect.

personally id do the body swap. a bronco will work well, but if you plan to do any serious stuff, you may need a fullsize. IF YOURE LUCKY you can find a 78-79 bronco WITH the 460, D60 and 9 inch 31 spline, with factory 3.50 gears. then its just about as simple as a body swap and youre about good to go.
bob, did for drop in 460s or D60 from the factory? or u refering to someone who swapped one in?
oh ya man, how do u plan to stop 49s?

in the 78-79 MYs, 460s and D60s were not impossible to find factory equipment. not easy to find, but not impossible. and the ones that arent already parted out command a corresponding chunk of change, if you catch my drift
