Awesome!! I've been trying to convince my b/f to let me do something like that. I'm the same way, I don't want an engine to go in right away, I want to get one to rebuild first. I think it would be fun to learn to rebuild an engine. I almost did once... we had a chevy sb that I tore down, and we were GOING to rebuild it, because the guy told us it was a 350.... it was a 305. :(

I need a sugar daddy or a high paying job.... there's so many projects I'd want to do but don't have enough $$$. :(

Good luck on your project!! :D

Doesn't Texas has a law that you can only replace an engine from a vehicle of the same or later year? As in no dropping a late 60's big block in much of anything today?

How much are you paying for it? cause i can possibly get it for cheaper, and running, slightly modded as well

Thats my problem here in CA, I'd look into it before you buy anything. Most of the bigger states (that I know of) have adopted CARB standards, and thats one of them...

The year model of a reconstructed vehicle will be the same year in which it was reconstructed and not the year of original manufacture. Therefore, the inspection requirements would be for the model year of the vehicle (same as the year of reconstruction) or the year model of the engine itself, whichever is the later model.
In other words, in has to be as new as his truck?

Wouldnt a rebuild be considered new, you would have to convert it to MAF, and Fuel Injected...

No, a rebuild wouldn't count, it has to be the same year or newer, and they are gonna eat his *** when they see a carb motor in there. If you really wanna do it, best thing would be to find an 01' Explorer or Mountanier, with a V8, swap will be a hell of alot easier, and you will be able to pass it off easier. Also this isnt just a bolt in drop. You will need new motor mounts, new radator and mounts, wiring, computer, tranny, and don't even try and use your 7.5, you will tear it up fast.

I agree. Go for an Explorer 5.0. It still might not be legal, but I don't think any Ford came with a 5.0 after '01.

You could go the crate motor route. The motor would be brand new. However, they are very expensive and you will spend a lot of time and money hunting for parts to make it work.

Have you considered just buying another truck? You don't even have to sell the one you have, just get a project truck.

Yeah, no 302's after 01', but a create motor would work, so long as the emisions were the same or better than what you have now. Texas has based almost all of its laws off of Cali, and most countys are alot harder now, and all will be by 07' I think it is. There are always ways around things though, but it will be easier to pass it off if you use a 01'

you wont drop a 5.0 in there... you dont have the guts.... lol jk DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT..... i think the 94 or 95 mustang gt had a 5.0 in it..... like the last year for the mustang or sumthing... but anyways that would be a good route to go b/c of teenagers wrecking them daily lol....
