The only 1999 FX4

hey justy thinking to myself, i wanted to try and creat my own "FX4" and not just the decals, although its a start. I was planning on checking the local JY getting some new, well new to me, bucket seats, off road tires, lift, and i wanted to change my interior to black, like the headliner and changeable pieces. I know it will be a lot of work and not perfect, but give me some feedback. may just be stupid but idk was tossing it around in my head so..

Sounds cool, why not do a front end conversion 01-03 while you're at it? =]

I would know itz a 99. Especially once you popped the hood and it had as OHV.....lol. Don't call it an FX4 if itz not. Make something else up. I thought the FX3 that the 2wd guys came up with was pretty good.

You mean FX2?

FX4's are FX3's cuz only three wheels are spinning when the l/s is engaged. =]
Stock anyhow.

I think the decals look sharp on that truck!

Would be cool if you added the stuff that came from the factory that made it an FX4, like skid plates and blistins...

Same here. IMO if you put stickers on it of something that it's not, that's rice.

You can still build yourself a badass truck and all those mods would be great to have, but custom design your own 4x4 off-road decals or something similar. Don't use the FX4 if it's not an FX4... It demeans those of us who do have them.

One guy made FX3 stickers... he was a 2wd black tremor (BlkTremor02?) who had stacked lifts and 35s, KC light bar, and a winch. I think by his logic the winch was what made his 2wd FX3 instead of 2...

Doesn't the FX4 have the 31 spline axle with torsen limited slip? I got the skid plate, Bilstiens and 4wd does that make me an FX4. I'm not hating on your truck. I would just go a different route with the decal.

only fx4 with the 31 spline is the 2002 model. 2003+ fx4 lvl2 have 31 spline also.

its not like it really matters what it is or isnt.

In effect, yes. There's alot more to it than some skid plates, shocks, and a limited slip though. It's just my two cents, and I'm glad it's better than some of those people who throw FX4 Off-road stickers on their Econoline vans anyways...

i dont think that because it is an fx4 that it would always have L/S I think it is an option.

yep including the 4.0L SOHC.... ....

its not really an FX4 and the FX4 didnt come with all the skid plates and all the goodies anyways and like Zach sayed the L/S was an option granted alot of them where LS doesnt mean all of them where at all...

in 2002 the FX4 Offroad was the "level II" there was still the 4x4 Offroad package. in 2003 the birth of the name level II came in the the FX4 level II was born. and they droped the 4x4 Offroad and RENAMED it FX4 offroad. but this was also the 5th gen trucks with the 4.0L SOHC. your truck is a 4th Gen with the 4.0L OHV motor. so in reality it can never be a FX4 Offroad just like mine isnt a Type-R edition if i so choose to put the emblems on the truck...

if you want to make your truck a FX4 Offroad NON-2002 version then your already there minus the 4.0L SOHC. those trucks came just as the 4x4 Offroad's did. now if you want make it a 2002 FX4 offroad you have some work cut out for you. all the skid plates. finding a 31 spline rearend with tortion lock diff. 4.0L SOHC with Twin shifter trans/transfer case. all black interor, class 1 bars, 2001+ front end and removal of your flare side for a fleet side bed and putting on all black fenderflares and plastic on the outside, and the shocks..and other yadada little stuff...

personally to me the truck was built as a 4x4 Offroad it will always be one to me..thus like all those people out there that put SVT ranger, guess what it isnt...there was only one and theres doesnt have a 5.4L.... its just a sticker man...
