bad choice on the continental 4.6. They have screwed up engine mounts, wrong bolt pattern for the bellhousing, and a messed up oil cooler/filter. Best to get the 4.6 out of a cobra or mark viii for nearly basic bolt in.

The gran marguis he has had 36k on it, but I can't get it now anyway he sold the whole car to a guy who wanted it for a demo derby. He does have a sable on blocks too, even lower mileage, but I don't have a clue what's in it.

I'm likin the way that mark viii engine sounds, I just gotta find one.

What about volvo and mazda engines? Both of those companies use some ford engines right? Hell jaguar does too do they not?

Dam that suck, you can get some pretty good power out of those 4.6 sohc. And that is super low miles (gay it is used for demo derby when you could have done something sweet to it).

Mark viii engines are pretty cheap to come by. Don't let anyone fool you by saying they are the same as cobra engines. They are close, but not the same so don't pay extra for it.

I think sables had 3.0? v-6 for sure. Don't do that. Do 4.6 for sure. Or better, 5.4.

And id love to do a turbo 2.3, but me in me pickiness, I would rather have a more factory-looking one, idk but the idea of taking an 88-89 turbo 4banger outta a thundercoupe isn't as appealing as trying to make a turbo duratec, but it would be way cheaper. That's why I was trying to find a different engine I might try

Actually, the engine looks fairly stock to most non-car people if you do it right (the TC intercooler hides the turbo, but if you go to an FMIC you could always build a false A/C box to hide it). However, you won't be fooling any real car guys because they will hear that turbo from a mile away. The 2.3T motors tend to make quite a bit of turbo noise, enough that even a straight 3" exhaust can be drowned out by the turbo spinning.

But hey, who else has a 4-banger Ranger that sounds like an F16?

My engine bay (not entirely current, but the most recent one I have):

Also note that the Ford 2.3T has almost no notoriety or street cred to speak of, so its sleeper potential is EPIC in the real world. Few things in this world are funnier than saying "Hey, I bet I can beat that with my 4-cylinder Ranger" and then winning. When you win you will get screaming, crying, laughing, LOADS of BS excuses about why you won, another driver's complete loss of all dignity, and best of all are the WTF stares. The fun you can have with a turbo 4-banger Ranger is endless.

My opinion may be slightly biased because I own one, but of any vehicle I have ever owned this thing brings more "WTF factor" than anything else. And this is coming from a guy who had such vehicles as a low 11-second Harley ironhead (you don't know a sleeper bike until you have a Harley that hangs with crotch rockets).
i like this idea, sometimes i wish i woulda done that or just re-build the 2.3 as powerful as possible and be content with that..unless u have loads of money and time and knowledge these swaps can caise a lot of headaches..

This is true, I was lucky enough to pick up a halfway complete truck. That's the way to do it. All the hard stuff is out of the way, it's the simple stuff like battery, fan, shifter, exhaust, gauges, etc. that needed to be done. Sure I had to spend some money to get the truck done, but I could have never done all the work and bought all the stuff in that truck already for the price I paid.

There are a couple turbocharged Rangers for sale around me still, they all hover around $2000-3500. For what you're getting, it's not a bad price at all.

anyone ever think of a 2.5 flat 4 out of a Subaru?

i've seen those things put out wicked numbers
but you would have to change tranny and driveshafts and countless other stuff

maybe too much work for the simple gearhead.....

Totally bumping a dead thread here, but I vote 4BT, Mercedez Benz 3.0L diesel out of like an 80's 300D, or if you don't want a diesel, 4.6L Interceptor out of a crown Vic cop car.
