Pocket Lights

I decided to take a break from the electronics stuff (and give myself an excuse to buy a dremel), and set out to make my idea of pocket lights a reality.

I just cut down the first window crank to the shell/shoulder-thingamabob in the set. It actually looks really good I think...

I plan to put 1 or 2 white LEDs facing the pockets in it.

I just can't decide if I want to glue the shoulders to the doors or to use the old crank mechanism to make something that is removable... hmm...

Another idea to kick around... these will be wired to the illumination bus... but do I want them switched, and if so what to use and where to place the switches...

Thanks. Haha, hey, if you'll help pay for the trip, I'd love to make it out that way again..

Anyway, more updates. I fab'ed up the PCB/LED board that will sit in the housings. Next step is to solder in the power feeds and get the crazy glue.

Say what you will about the LED setup, but remember that this is a family site...

The PCB cut to fit the housing, will be held in with CrazyGlue or the like...

A test fit of the board in the housing... fits good...

The LEDs soldered to the PCB board...

And test fitting the LEDs...

The LEDs are large style bright whites. I sanded the tips to diffuse the light a bit. I decided to go with LEDs to keep the heat output to a minimum. I'm thinking I may just glue these things to the door. LEDs should last for a good part of the life of the truck, I would think.

More to come after the weekend.
