Should I?

Here's my dilemma. I love my truck more than anything, but it's at 149,0xx miles right now. Rust issues, tranny is still original so that will go soon, and I have a gut feeling she's on her last breath. There is this GORGEOUS truck about a half hour from my school, 2004 Ranger 4dr Supercab, 4x4, 4.0 5-spd. Every option it looks like minus power windows which I could always install. It does however, look like it has a crooked front bumper and it's missing a passenger side fog light, but I'd ditch the front bumper for a custom tube bumper anyway. Here is the link....

This is the exact-ish front end I'd go for with the billet grill/tube bumper...

I would take a $8,000 loan (4yr/48motnth)out for this truck, so that would be enough for the truck, a 3" BL, and 33" BFG AT's on my current black steelies. The price listed on the website is including a trade-in, so there's where my truck comes into play. This would be about a $9k or $10k truck without a trade in IMO.

From my current truck, I'd keep the wheels, bull-bar, the tonneau, the RECON Line of Fire, my stereo system, and my exhaust if possible.

Again! I am just throwing some ideas around. I'm just really into this at the moment. Please let me know what you think.

I dont see the bumper in that pic... lol

08XLT4x4 02-03-2009 01:28 PM

What bumper?

freddie 02-03-2009 01:29 PM

Jeez I can't stop thinking about that picture! I'd make it my phone wallpaper but my GF was already pissed when I just MENTIONED that picture of those chicks lmao.

Out of curiousity, what do you want for your truck? I think its gorgeous man. My personal experience, keep what you've got. I got rid of my 2000 cause I wanted a newer, "prettier" truck, but I'm sick of the payments...

Downey 02-03-2009 01:29 PM

do it it seems like a nice truck

04blackedge 02-03-2009 01:32 PM

Do it!

freddie 02-03-2009 01:32 PM

I just looked at the truck. Get a carfax on it first. That front bumper and valance doesn't look right. The bumper isn't level, and the valance on the RF doesn't look attached 100% correctly.

What do I want for my truck? I honestly have no clue. Exterior-wise, it's beautiful, as all of you guys seem to have nothing but compliments for it, which I appreciate it. But check my threads, like one of my first ones, where I had a cracked frame and a blown head gasket in the same week. And yeah, I can see your view on the payments. But, I have no money in the bank at all, literally like 27 cents. Paid about $1000 for the engine repair, a $1000 for insurance, and 400 for my frame welding since beginning of June. So.....I'm wiped and really have no other alternative unless I take a loan out and just fix the Mazda up to what I want it to be.

And yeah, the girl I'm talking to.....wasn't too fond of my background hahahah.

Yeah I noticed the bumper, don't you need a CARFAX acct to do that?

freddie 02-03-2009 01:39 PM

Yeah but if you check the Off-Topic section, there's a thread stickied where you can paste the VIN and hope that someone has a carfax account for the month or whatever.

I don't know that you could finance that truck, especially if you're broke..

RangerJustin 02-03-2009 01:40 PM

Definitely looks like it was in an accident and it already has 100000 miles on it...

04blackedge 02-03-2009 01:41 PM

FX2.3 can check carfax for you

99MazdaB4000 02-03-2009 01:43 PM

Thanks for the input guys, I'm just at one of those points right now, where I don't know what the F i want to do. Not only with my truck, but with school and with life, etc etc. Just throwing ideas around like crazy today.

03rededge 02-03-2009 01:44 PM

would be too many miles on it for me to spend nearly 8k, more if you dont put down the advertised $2500.

freddie 02-03-2009 01:44 PM

I would hang on to what you go, and just cross fingers that it holds up for you until you can get on your feet.

^^^ My thoughts exactly.

Why do you feel like your trucks on it's "last leg"?

I've got over 175,000 on mine and it's still as reliable as the day I bought her. Still on the original tranny too, as long as you do routine maintenance, she'll last forever.

Honestly, after making payments on trucks and cars all my life, unless something major happens, I'm not gonna jump back into it.

larsen550 02-03-2009 02:46 PM

That truck on ebay looks real messed, I'm not sure I would even look at it. Missing a fog light isn't that bad but combined with uneven bumper makes me curious. I bought an '04 Ranger 4door Supercab Fx4 for 7,000. This doesn't seem fair at all. Double check its history

tjtheman007 02-07-2009 06:47 PM

Im in the same boat as you, im in school and have close to no money and really want a new truck, but with that said, my truck still gets me around and will last until im done with school. My own personal rule is not to buy anything unless i have the money for it. I bought my current truck in cash and have not regretted it once. Your truck may need some work, but a couple hundred bucks is better then a few thousand.

That truck looks a lil rough too and it seems a little expensive too.

Just my advice. Sorry if its not what you wanted to here man. I Love your truck as well, even with the problems you have had, lol.

98liftedranger 02-07-2009 06:56 PM

I would say do it Steve. Maybe see if he would come down like another grand on the truck with yours as trade in. That would be nice to have for Feb 28th.

filmont 02-07-2009 07:02 PM

I have to agree with the general idea here that this may not be the best deal. If it's something you really want, I bet you could be a walk-in buy and negotiate a better price. Since it's a dealer, I'm betting they would sell it outside of ebay. But in the end, it's your money, do whatever you want with it!

thesoundmaster 02-07-2009 07:08 PM

Steve, take a look at the pic in the e-bay link from dead on the front... tell me what you notice under the pass. side of the grille. That truck's been wrecked. Pass on that one boss.

Riceman 02-10-2009 04:56 PM

I like your truck better, but if you must upgrade, don't pick that one. The bumper is crooked for a reason. I bet that truck has a had a rough life, and probably been wrecked, and I wouldn't buy a 2004 with 100k. My 2004 had 54k on it when i bought it a few months ago. I would keep shopping.

goliath553 02-10-2009 05:39 PM

its def an upgrade if you can afford it, then do it.

Stryker 02-10-2009 05:42 PM

if ur tryin to get rid of a truck with high miles... why would u buy another one with high miles???

4x4RangerOffroad 02-11-2009 05:39 PM

I have a 99 with 186k original trans/motor runs awesome still, so...Id stick with what you have.

Lord Of War 02-11-2009 05:48 PM

If you take out a 8k plus loan on a truck that has 100,000 miles on it your a fool.
