tube bumper or roll pan

well i bent the crap outta my rear bumper last weekend mudding and wanted some opinions, I'm leaning towards a custom tube rear bumper. something similar to interceptors or Scott G's (i think anyways).
i was also thinking about a roll pan and a hitch (since i don't have one yet) and if i get the tube bumper it will have a 2inch receiver.

Tube bumper. Roll pans are no good if you wheel!

and why is that? they dont "look" cool on a 4x4 or what?

crazymikey 01-12-2009 11:35 PM

Because you'll bend up a roll pan as bad,if not worse than a stock bumper.

Ever see a minitruck on bags dragging and the rollpan gets ripped off?

Tube bumper FTW.

Redneckstone 01-12-2009 11:35 PM

both

Not that they don't look cool. They are not functional. I have my rear bumper kind of like a roll pan. But mine is functional and will not break.

i think they look great and i think it may be cheaper if i find a used hitch on craigslist or something, i need a recovery point in the rear so the hitch is going on if i get a roll pan keep in mind.

My next major mod is going to be tube rear bumper and rock sliders. The tube rear bumper though is more or less to look good with my front bumper. i didnt really think about strength when it comes to the rear bumper. I guess if you hit anything hard enough it will break no matter what...

He means that you can install a roll pan and then install a tube bumper infront of it like a stock rear bumper. Just so you dont have that big open gap under the tailgate so everyone can stare at your spare tire.

edit* lol adam beat me to it with pics

08XLT4x4 01-12-2009 11:43 PM

^^^ interesting, that actually looks pretty good!

crazymikey 01-12-2009 11:43 PM

I'd rock that set up.

Yeah he was BL'ed but there was no gap because of the roll pan.

ScottG 01-13-2009 05:47 AM

Yeah

The bumper was mounted at the stock location and the roll pan covered the gap from the bodylift

Trigger01 01-13-2009 08:15 AM

Mine is like his. Really the only difference is that evenything on mine is flush and his sticks out a little with the hook mounts. Pics show it below.

i like the clevis' on the bumper, and i wanted to mount my license plate on the left side, and add 2 reverse lights outside of the clevis'. but very similar design, id if i have enough room on my stepside though.

I have added D rings to mine and put my license plate in the center. That was the day I put it on.

I would put the license plate in the middle and then reverse lights toward the outside. I think it would look better that way especially since you have a stepside.
