What do you guys think? Pictures would be nice!

Im in a bit of a hurry right now so ill upload a picture of my truck later.

Im tossing around the idea of making a 1998 version of the late 80s STX version rangers.

I already have the grille guard, roll bar with square lights and the truck is a regular cab.

Its a basic 2WD coil spring suspension XLT with chrome bumpers. The truck is actually a 2003 with a 98-00 front end.

I was thinking about going with a black bumper and grille for the front and a black rear bumper. Right now they are chrome.

I ask becuase I am about to order some U.S. Wheel series 94 rims which is a combination of chrome and black. The truck is toreador red.

So my question is, what do you guys think about a black nose and back bumper with a modest 3'' lift and some 30 inch tires. I'm not looking to put massive tires on it with a huge lift, just something to make it look a little more aggressive. I really dont do much off roading.

If anyone has any pictures of such a set up or something close, please post a picture! Ill post a picture of my truck tonight.

Thanks!
Sean T.

ok... so firt gen body'd 98 ranger, with a 3" lift and 30's?

no idea how you'd line up the body lines, but go for it. id go atleast 31's, 30's are too tiny.

Why do you want an older STX and not a newer version of it?

Well, I am kind of an old school guy. I replaced the entire front end and tail lights with the older version simply because I just like the yellow colored plastic turn lamps. Weird I know but I just love the look of the colored plastics.

Also picked up an early 80s Jeep J-10 roll bar and modified it enough to fit the ranger.

I just really like the look of the older mid to late 80s STXs trucks and want to do something similar. The truck has to get a lift but I want something that looks proportional. Im starting to wonder if 31'' tires look too big for the regular cab. I really like the look of the 86 STX with the slight lift and larger stock tires. This is my truck right now. Not the best picture, was taken with my phone before the front end swap.

This is my inspiration...

Im just wondering what kind of tires those are. I saw somewhere they were 235X75rX15s but just want to confirm. Its just a great looking little truck.

Yeah, after doing some more searching online for pictures, I decided to leave the bumpers and such chrome.

I do really like those U.S. Wheel series 94 rims. What do you guys think for my truck?

I still like the tire size on that STX and the ride height. Any suggestions on a lift? And, if I go 235X75rX15 tires, would I need a 15X8 or a 15X7 rim? I was going to order rims yesterday but decided to hold back a bit. Or what about the older rims from the 80s STX's? I'm really un decisive... haha

i had tat exact truck , only in the 1990 version-same color. I bought it brand new, 6 months later, it was turned-in under the Lemon Law.
3rd pic down is my exact truck, except that looks like a longbed; mine was a shorty.

Do you remember the ride height of that truck, rim size and the tire size? I just love the way they look and I think that same stance on my ranger would look pretty cool. I see the hi-riders ran about 1.5 to 2 inches higher than the base models.

They were a 235-75R15 on a 15x7 IIRC--it WAS 22 years ago, and i only had it for 6 months.
