First off never post a link to a vs thats on one of the contenders websites...
like thats not going to be biased...

K&N is not the same as M1 as far as filters go.. they do have a very similar media... but they are not the same.

Personally I like the purolator Pure 1 filter which is a full synthethic media filter for 5$ vs 10+$ for m1, amsoil,k&n etc.

I have been using the m1 truck and suv oil its 5w40 and its widely believed
to be a rebottled M1 Delvac 1 motor oil(7$qt stuff)
The m1 t&s is 19.92 in a 5qt jug at wally world right now.

Also investing 3$ in a filter end cap wrench is well worth it... just make sure
the one you get matches your filter.

That all said I'm not biased against amsoil.. its very good oil. If I had it handy I would no doubt use it. I do like going to advanced grabbing filter and hitting walmart and getting the oil.. mail order oil is sorta annoying. Its about convienence.

Hey just sharing information bud, never said you had to believe OR even read it.

To be honest the best testing done is by members who have actually used AMSOIL and tested it themselves. And I believe there are a few here that have done so.

And yeah I believe alot of people feel the same way that mail order is annoying, but it does save yourself a trip to the store, and for YOU I notice you live in NE Ohio, it probably wouldnt take more than 2-3 days max to get there since we have a warehouse in Columbus.

All of amsoils own "evidence" is tainted in some way or another..
I'm not saying amsoil isnt good.. and perhaps my comment was overly harsh..
I just believe posting a comparison from the website of one of the products isnt very good reading..
That would be like me saying M1 is the bestest oil ever
www.mobil1.com/wehavethebestoil.htm or something. and thinking it proves something. The earlier link was a 3rd party.. to my knowledge unaffiliated
with either brand of oil.

Amsoil likes to spout on the 4-ball wear test which proves exactly nothing..

Head and shoulders with 1% zinc (peroxide?) in it outperforms both M1 and amsoil..
that doesnt make it a good oil though.

To recap. Both are good oils... M1 is alot cheaper. Amsoil has its own merits.

Disclaimer: the "alot cheaper" statement is based on prices of M1 at
walmart in the 5qt Jug vs current amsoil prices for similar offerings.
Ie M1 EP@23$ / 5qt
M1 T&S@20/5qt

Motorcraft filter and Motorcraft 5W-30 syn blend. It gets that no matter if I change the oil or if it goes to the dealer if I am feeling lazy (only one dealer is allowed to touch it).

i use mobil 1 5W30, and a WIX filter for both the ranger, and the corvette

i use to be a faithful castorl GTX user(would go back to it at any time)........... but i also used to be a FRAM user, and a guy that worked at a place specializing in all types of filters showed me one opened up, and i couldn't belive my eyes, so needless to say on my next oil change in the honda i went WIX filter along with castrol 10W30 castrol has never failed me, but pennzoil, and quaker state? just flat out sucks

I buy whatever full synthetic is on sale. I have used pennzoil platinum, Mobile one and castrol syntec. I just switched to fram filters over the sonic blue purolaters because of the grippy end. Sounds like I will be switching back. Thanks to those who mentioned the fram problem.

I recently changed my oil and now you folks have me concerned about Fram filter. Can I change out filter with only losing a quart of oil or losing all of the oil?

Mobil 1 (0w20 initially, now 5w20 since they started selling that here) with Motorcraft filters since new. I'll never allow any Fram product within spitting distance of my truck, and I don't particularly care for Quaker State products either.

whats wrong with quaker state?

fram filters get a bad rep, but they arent that bad. my dad used them since he was driving and on everything he own'd. never any problems. also uses quaker state.

recently we switched from fram to motorcraft because the frams dont have the anti-drain back valve. thats the only reason we switched.

for oil, i strongly recommend wal-marts super tech brand. its widely avaible, cheap and has every rating the others do.

want more info on oils, filters and the like...check out www.bobistheoilguy.com for REAL and UNBIASED tests/results and testimonials...plus theres a forum to search on.

I like the amsoil 0W30 along with there ea series filters. stay away from the basic orange fram filters, they have paper endcaps and come apart very often. I am only speaking of the basic orange filters that fram has, I have no experiance with their other filters. The mobile-1 oil was great before the merge...now they are just trying to survive with it's reputation. The product in the bottle is not what it used to be!!!

Motorcraft Filter

I do 10K oil changes.

Normally I don't really think too much into oil changes. I just pick mid range 5w30 and a mid range filter. I do 4k mile oil changes, so I don't lose any sleep over what oil to run.

2008 FX4. I use Pennzoil 5w-30 full synthetic and generally the Wix oil filter as it was longer than the FL-820S Motorcraft is now.

I've been running MaxLife 5w30 every 5k miles...last UOA wasn't the greatest, so i've switched to Mobile1 HM 5w30 to see if it works any better. Purolator filter works just fine.

BITOG is a great site, more than just oil...just about any/all other fluids discussed...except wiper fluid.

I just bought a couple of Bosch D3422 Distance Plus from my 4 cyl B2300.

I saw a forum post somewhere which torn apart several oil filters, weighed them, measured them. and then took particulate counts of contaminants in the oil. The Bosch Distance Plus was #1 by a fairly wide margin. I believe Mobil 1 (Purolator) high end oil filters came in 2nd.

Another good oil filter is Mahle OC 479.

Mahle also makes air and fuel filters and many gasket sets that will fit the Ranger.

It's a German firm that makes OEM products for high end German vehicles.

For oil, I only use Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro Formula (Walmart) as spec's show it to be the best oil in the $5 / qrt range by a wide margin.
