I have a 2008 3.0 liter v6 ext.cab Ranger with just under 12,000 miles. I took the vehicle to Valvoline for an oil change and one of the pit guys asked the other guy how much oil. The guy said 5 quarts, but the manual states 4.5. I politely asked the guy and he said my vehicle always takes 5. He showed me the dipstick and it wasn't overfilled. I know they changed the filter. Is this correct? The manual is wrong?

 

Yeah mine says the same thing, but always takes 5 to fill it including filter.

Thanks guys. He told me that the owner's manuel is wrong a lot, and with my new 08 he couldn't look it up. The computer only goes to 07. I thought it was weird, and I could tell that he was new. He had to keep asking the other guys how to input my order into the system.

 

Yea.,...alot of the capacities on our trucks are a lil different than what the manual states. The manual said I needed more atf for my manual trans, it didn't take the amount the manual states.

It doesnt matter if you put 4.5 or 5 in. 4.5 puts your right between Min and Max. 5 will just give you a little more.

 

The big jug never gets me to the min line. I always have to buy an extra Litre to get it full.

Actually, 2 big jugs and one extra litre gets me 2 oil changes. But I always fill my filter before I install it.

Funny, there was a guy at the bar last night really talking up valvoline. But he was a dumbass "I haven't changed my oil in over 100,000 miles and it's still clean. Looks as clear as that beer!!" LMFAO!!!!!!!!

 

i just changed my oil the other day. ROYALE PURPLE!!!!!!! took 5 quarts including the filter.

 

Funny, I talked with my dad this afternoon and he puts almost any oil in his cars and he has a background in the auto industry. He just retired after 36 years of service in the Cleveland Casting Plant. He would buy whatever case of oil was on sale at the local auto parts store. In my old Escort he used to use Valvoline, but in his cars he would use Shell or Quaker State.

I used to use Penzoil because that is what the lube shops around here typically use, but I got a coupon for $15 off at Valvoline because I hadn't been there in a while. It really helped because a regular 5w-20 oil change at 7.75% tax would have come to nearly $36. I almost **** myself. I couldn't believe it. Anyway, I noticed right after I pulled away the difference. My vehicle's RPM's seemed lower and the engine purred like a cat. I get an oil change around 3,300 miles. I'm sold.
