Your opinion on motor oils

ok Just wondering what you guys would think of these oil comparisons.
I have Castrol GTX
Mobil 1 Synthetic,
Mobil Super 1000,
Quaker state Defy,
Royal Purple High performance Synth.

I have a 1998 Ford 4 cyl, 140 000k on it.
What you think the top 3 oils are for my type of vehicle in this list?

I like Mobil 1, or Valvoline full synthetic.

For a 98 with 140k on it, as long as it has oil and it gets changed, it won't matter.

I use regular Valvoline...what's the draw of synthetic? Or would it be a good idea to switch to synthetic?

I use Castrol GTX 'High Mileage' Part Synthetic. I switched to the partial synthetic stuff a few oil changes ago without knowing it (the jugs look the same) and I can't tell one bit of difference over regular oil.

I personally think that a particular brand is overrated, and I believe that the main point is to change the oil and filter regularly. There are many different brands of every product out there, and oil is no exception. Personally, I used to prefer Valvoline because I felt that the Ranger ran a little smoother. For my wife's Ford Edge, I used to use Pennzoil simply because the Quick Lube I'd frequent carried that brand. I finally found a repair shop that I trust, and they happen to use neither of those. If a particular brand were that bad, then we'd be hearing all sorts of harm about it.

Oil is oil, just my opinion. My neighbor has sworn by his Honda Cert. motor oil from the dealer since he bought his car. I use Valvoline NextGen tho with the K&N filter that has the 1" nut on top, makes taking it off easier, IMO.

Castrol GTX. I don't really see the importance of running Royal on anything but a Racecar.

i switched to Mobile 1 and Motorcraft Filters at 25K and have not looked back.

It was 9 degrees this AM and it spun over just like in warmer weather.

The thing about Synthetic Oil is the miles between changes increases, not to mention the lubrication quality.
I do oil and filter, then 3-4K later do filter and top off the oil then 3-4K later do the oil and filter again.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic, I switched to 10-30w after 75000 miles. When I changed the oil after the break in back in 1997 I put the Mobil 1 in from then on. I just had some work done on my truck this fall after having an intake gasket failure and needing new valve cover gaskets and the guy that did the job said the inside or the engine still looks like new with very little wear on the parts he looked at.

All oils have to pass EPA Regs and Fed Regs too I think. So IMHO Oil is Oil. As far as a filter goes, I saw a YOU TUBE video that a guy cut open a dozen or so oil filters so you can see which look better than others. Purolator was darn good for the money.

I can't remember buying a case unless there was a mail-in rebate offer. The last case of oil I got was at Menard's, Q-state conventional 5W20 ( still hard to find after 6 years) just after the re-did the store and put the quarts of oil in those slide down racks. I had the clerk chase me down a full case. I kept with the Motorcraft filter FL400s but I go the 3 months instead of the 3,000 miles. I'd get that feeling that I was forgetting to change the oil if I waited the 3,000 miles. I haven't had any reason to go synthetic yet.

I use Castrol GTX conventional 5w30 and 5w20 in the escape. I use Cast because that is what we use at the shop. I've noticed that the bulk oil burns quicker then the bottled.

Like I said, if I can't get it on a rebate or on sale in a case I don't buy it. I have 3 cars to work on and if I went out a bought that 5 quart and a filter purchase that they advertise I go broke with synthetic. I bought 3 case last month of Shell 5 W 20 at Menard's ( 2 for me and one for my brother-in-law) well two solid ones, I had to brake open a case of 5 W 30 and place it on the rack and fill it with 5 W 20. They have more rows of the high milage/ blends and synthetics full. Its a waist of shelf space if you ask me. I did two oil changes in the past two weeks and still have to get the Mustang up on the ramps to change that oil. That I stick with 5 W 30 and a Motor Craft FL 1A oil filter.
