$400 f150 project

I just bought a 84 f150 for $400, it has a 351 Windsor with a 4 speed manual. The truck currently doesn't run but needs an intake manifold, carburetor, fuel tank and radiator. It has 35in tires, a 6in suspension lift and a 4in body lift, it also came with a 350 Chevy motor in the bed. My plan is to find body panels in better shape or bang them out with a hammer and to get it running so i can have two trucks.

Tys 4x4 FTW 07-02-2009 02:50 PM

350=no oil sealing AT ALL, all Chevy's I've worked on in auto shop had spare oil somewhere in the truck.

I think i will sell that motor because it all ready has a 351w in it, and i have two other engines that i want to rebuild a 302 and a 351c, plus my dad hates Chevy.

Yeah and being 16 doesn't help me either.

Update
I got a carburetor (4bbl Holley) for $30, now i need an intake manifold, radiator, battery, alternator, exhaust manifold, and maybe a gas tank.
Good news though I was talking to my older brother about my truck and he is sending me a $400 check for parts, now i need to go to the junkyard.:biggthump

I would get the radiator and gas tank new...the junkyard here slashes their tanks as soon as they get to the yard.

and if its gonna be a trail truck try to find a high power alternator, I'm getting ready to upgrade my alternator and add 4 lights.

Is your brothers name John?

chainfire 07-30-2009 12:09 PM

My advice? Take off the 4 inch body lift, and hack the fenders to make the tires fit

Whats wrong with the body lift, and I think the tires might fit because of the suspension lift.

chainfire 07-30-2009 02:28 PM

4 inch body lift is usually too much stress on the bolts. The cab can shear right off the mounts. Is it going on the road? If it is, then you now have to worry about liability if you get into an accident

I was planning on doing a bit of both, how about if I changed it to a 2in body lift would that be safer? And is it hard to take the body lift off, if its a safety issue then I would want to take it off.

chainfire 07-30-2009 02:41 PM

If you can get the cab bolts off, the rest is easy. Just make sure when its going down, they havent modified anything that is going to bend or bind. Like brake lines.

But if your going to take it off, why not leave it off?

3 inches and lower is the general rule.

Ok so do you think that the suspension lift should fit the tires without trimming?
thanks for your help

chainfire 07-30-2009 03:14 PM

By the looks of it they should. But I really don't know those Fords too well.

Why are you scared of trimming?

Actually im not really its just that my dad might not like that too much, it is a $400 truck after all.

Would these be the body lift blocks i would have to remove?
