2002FX4's 5.0 swap

Emissions are an issue. Here in CA for and engine swap to be 'legal', the origin of the engine has to be from the same year or newer vehicle. Now since I have an '02 truck, I wouldn't be able to find an '02 or newer 5.0 from and explorer because they weren't offered. So my plan is to wait until I smog my truck in July, then I technically have two years time to do the swap and either (1) move out of state, (2) have the truck no longer be street legal, or (3) register it in another state where emissions arn't and issue.
Its from a '96 Explorer. And yeah, I want to beef it up some (internals), but not exactly sure what I'm gonna go with. It is EFI which I'm very happy with.
Ahh man, now THATS a proper engine for a ranger
Tell ya what though, having many months to go befor eyou really put it in is good news...
Pull that head of of there, get it painted nice and neat, clean it up alot.. rebuild it a littel here and there.
Make it purr like a kitten, and make peopel go ooooo and aaaaa when you pop the hood open!

i don't wanna discurage you or be negative. but why not keep it legal and put a 4.6 in it? the 5L swap has been done alot. be different. you say that you'd move or register out of state. that's alot of work just to do the swap.
either way, good luck with your build.

Look at a 4.6 Modular engine and look in the engine bay of a Ranger, it could be done, by Chip Foose....lol I just dont think there is sufficent room in a Ranger engine bay for a 4.6L.
How is a 347 more fragile than a 331? They are the same bore, just a 347 has a longer stroke. 347 if you want to stroke.
?
If you are talking about the piston/rod angles, they have been addressed and taken care of by many companies. All of which are old issues.
