My big truck project (big pics)

I've already posted a while back about my truck (1978 4X4 Ford Courier Brahma)..well I am starting to fix it and planning to get it drivable and will probably sell my Ford Ranger. I am posting pictures of how my project is coming along. It will take time due to I am only in High School and don't make enough of money where I work. If you know anyone who has a shortbed off a Ford Courier, please tell them to contact me.

Sorry that the pics are big
Pictures:

Just started on the truck:

I need new brakes. I need a new clutch. Yes, I need to rewire the whole thing. I know. It will take time and some $.

telemaster1952 03-18-2008 09:12 PM

RangerExtreme 03-18-2008 09:23 PM

wow looks almost like its more work then its worth....IMO i wouldn't even touch it looks like its to to far gone..if it was a mustang now i'd bring her back.

D. 03-18-2008 09:31 PM

THAT is different! Not something one would see every day!

WowMike2001 03-18-2008 11:32 PM

Man, once you clean and sand all that old paint off and get her to some godo metal.. patch her up and give it a paint job.. itll give you a ton of oomph to get the rest done.. I would love to see that thing in a dark forest green or a nice dark mahagony style red!

Keep chugging it along.. itll be a damn good thign to kep you busy during high school.. I sure wish I had a project like that laying around.. I like to sink money into things ;)

BigMan 03-19-2008 04:25 PM

Well the reason I want to fix it up is:
I found out that they didn't make many of this type of Courier. 2nd generation 4x4 Ford Couriers are rare. The most common 4x4 Ford Courier is the Sasquatch. This is a Brahma. I've tried finding information about this truck and all I came up is that the Brahma company did a 4x4 conversion with the Ford Courier and made the 4x4 Ford Courier Brahma. No one knows about it, and no one I've seen yet has one. Most people who have a 4x4, have a Sasquatch and they live on the west coast. Most of the trucks were sold on the West coast.

Dude already offered me $1500-$2000 the way it is.
Plus I've never seen a Ford Courier. No one has them around here, from what I know. I've seen a 2wd Ford Courier though, at this place where some Florida people own but it's rusted completely....it's just gone.

I just don't know how to get the wiring down and where should I start?

My05edge 03-19-2008 04:35 PM

you can try painless performance and see if they can hook you up with some wiring stuff

jasgud 03-19-2008 04:46 PM

Try this, It's a 20 Circuit Ford Bronco Harness (1966 - 1977). IT should have everything you need. Factory colors, all the plugs are on it and its labeled. It would bring a little bit of modern wiring to a vehicle that had wiring problems from the start.

Trigger01 03-19-2008 06:57 PM

Looks like you have a heck of a project there. Your floorboard is in better condition than the floorboard of my '78 Pinto.

BigMan 03-19-2008 07:37 PM

Well, yall think the whole thing needs to be rewired? :-\
Yall wouldn't mind telling me the price yall think it would cost?
Btw, do yall think I can get bolts for the part that is missing bolts?

I might paint the truck green or leave it white. I don't know. I plan to get a air spray gun and do the painting myself instead of going out and paying 2k or so for one.

k.blakeley 03-19-2008 07:46 PM

looks like a fun project

Auto 03-20-2008 03:12 PM

looks like a fun project i wish i had space to do something like this

BigMan 03-20-2008 04:35 PM

It's ok. I just don't know what to do next. I don't have many tools to work with. I might have to get it running good enough to carry it to a mechanic for a little bit but I don't know. I'm just ready to drive it and sell my Ranger.

BigMan 03-24-2008 11:20 AM

I've gotten some new front brake pads and will put them on the truck sometime. They're called "Wearever", I don't know if their good or not..they only cost $15 bucks. I've got to order the back brake pads and lines, etc, so I will have them on soon.

I've been taking off my fenders off my truck and I will show pics:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...23-08_1918.jpg

All rusted, got to grind it off:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...23-08_1919.jpg

Got the rust off mostly and will put rust treatment on it:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...23-08_1930.jpg

Think I need to get new shocks?
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...23-08_1946.jpg

What does this go to, anyone know?
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...23-08_1948.jpg

I need a new 4x4 lock on my rightside, like this:
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...22-08_1831.jpg

Think I can get another lock like this off an older type of truck with 4x4 locks on the hubs?

BigMan 03-29-2008 11:59 PM

Good news. My engine isn't locked up. The truck hasn't been running in 7 months or so. I've gotten gas and filled the tank up and sprayed some starting fluid in the carbuerator and wam...no trouble starting up on the first try, look at the videos. I think the fuel lines are clogged up.

2 Attachment(s)
thats not a 2.5 BTW.
the later 2.3's and all the 2.5's did not come with a machined hole for the distributor. sorry man but thats an old 2.0 or 2.3.

heres what a 2.5 looks like

Attachment 202001

this is a 1991 2.3, it has the hole machined for a distributor but rather uses a camshaft possession sensor and has coil packs.
also note there is no hole machined in the block for a fuel pump.

BigMan 04-05-2008 08:21 PM

Ok....I'm starting to fix the brake system. I have all my lines and they look ok. They're steel lines. They are starting to rust but the rust hasn't caused no harm yet (I will sand them).

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...05-08_1941.jpg

I am trying to figure what hoses should I buy. Wondering if yall can help me. I know a hose is a hose but some are better than others.

I am planning on buying these:
2 sets:
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=228&PTSet=A

I need to buy everything else too, but no lines. Anyone help me out with what I SHOULD choose?

Thank You.

BigMan 04-18-2008 11:03 PM

Got my brake lines, capilurs(Sp?)....
All I need now for the brake system is the brake drums for the back, brake disc for the front and wam! Brake system-check!

D. 04-19-2008 02:36 PM

Damn.. You shouldn't paint those floorboards, you should cut them out and replace them.

My05edge 04-19-2008 02:53 PM

well he said he was going to put new metal down

04 EDGE 04-19-2008 03:43 PM

he must have overlooked my 2.5 correction post

Roddy 04-19-2008 10:55 PM

^^ yes he did and your right, its a 2.0L from wat i can see.

I want one of these trucks for a project now!

That or he didn't care to be corrected :)

The project looks cool, dude. You ought to send an e-mail to the guys at Trucks! from the Spike TV show. Maybe they'd be willing to help you out :)
