"Project Flatbed" build thread
I've had this project posted on another site for a while now, but I spend a lot more time here so I thought I'd post it here to see what you guys thought.
My project is a 1977 F250 4x4 400M. It has a D60 out back and a D44HD up front.
I bought the truck last year for $1000. The previous owner is a family friend and he cut me a good deal.
When I bought the truck the body work was already done, just needed paint. The engine, transmission, and transfer case had already been rebuilt.
They gave me every part I needed to finish it, plus access to a 78 F150 and a 73 F350 for any extra parts, no charge.
The truck is being built to replace my dad's 76 Chevy as the farm truck, but it's all up to me to build it.
Here's what I looked like when I reattached the panels and finished sanding. The door that is all primed had to be fixed, the patch panel that was welded on years ago caused the sheet metal to warp

Paint! I picked up fleet paint (no need for primer) from Napa Auto Parts, it's not supposed to be sold to the general public because it is so much cheaper than car paint, but the guy cut me a break
This was my first painting experience, I made a few mistakes, but I have a better gun now, so the next time hopefully it will be better

Next I traded the original bed for a flatbed ( I think I got a better deal)

Need to cut a hole for this

Probably not the best way, but it was the only way

Finally got the windshield and back glass installed, no glass shop in my area wanted to touch it (because its a locking gasket), finally found a guy that had been doing this for a long time and got it done

The truck is getting there, next time I'm home I'll get some updated pics and hopefully get the side windows finished
BTW, I have gotten rid of those 2 piece steel wheels, I picked up some 16x8 steels for $100 for the set, and I mounted my dad's 10 ply Firestones he had on his superduty

Exactly, that's why I didn't want to spend a lot money on the paint job

The color is fire engine red. ACTUAL fire engine red.
The fleet paint I bought is what I used to paint fire trucks and ambulances.

Well I didn't make as much progress last weekend as I was hoping. Here's how it sits now

I got the grill inserts put in, after taking the screws and clips out of a junk truck

Here are just a few random shots I took. It still has a way to go

I want one just to have and play around with but i need to be rich for what i want!

The only update right now is that window and window weatherstripping is in. I didn't get any pics of that.
I'm try to figure out how to fix the fan control switch since for some reason the plugs don't match, I think I'll end up soldering them together.
I'm gonna be getting a vinyl floor relatively soon and new screws to mount the passenger side door latch.
I should get a lot done over Christmas break

I don't have any updated pics yet. I spent my spring break replacing bearings in our JD manure spreader. and replacing axles seals in the JD 50.
Plus the battery needs to be replaced before I drive it. But I did change out the 28 year old oil. After the interior gets finished I'll probably replace the brakes, I've heard that even though it sits, the fluid does need to be changed after a long time

Sort of, the truck is driveable.
I need to put the door seals in, I was too busy of Christmas to do it. Once those are in there are only a couple of interior pieces left to put in.
I can easily finish it this summer, once I graduate I can put more time in on it

Truck is now for sale. It's not that I can't finish it, I just don't have time, I got a job 2 hours away so working on it is difficult. I'm going to use the money to put towards my wedding in May.
I hate to see it go, but it's taking up a lot of room in my dad's garage, and if I can find him another farm truck I can use his 76 Chevy as my next project
