Redranger4.0's Motorcycle Build thread.

Yes I know my truck isnt finished and Im starting another project. Since I cant go home to work on my truck cause of school, Im starting a project that I can build in the basement of my apartment.

My roomate has a early 1980's Yamaha Maxim 650 motorcycle. He also has another complete bike that isnt put together. So I bought the other "bike" off of him for $50. This is a generic picture of the bike.

Step 1 is to get the bike all back together and running.
step 2 is to black the bike out, black frame, wheels, tank, everything.
Step 3 is to cut the rear of the frame and make it into a hardtail, hopefully turning out like this.....

its gonna be a bobber/streefighter. r1 USd forks, custom subrame, black out everything except the tank fenders and headlights which will be army-ish green...

its in peices in the garage right now, soon as I make the subframe/bobberish tailsection the frame and swingarm are taking a trip to the powder coaters...

Yea my roommate bought his xj650 and the "parts" bike came with it so I figured I might as well put it back together. And I figured I might as well do some mods to it as well.

Did some minor cleaning today on the bike, took the old airbox and battery holder out as they wont be reused after we chop the frame up.

lol you can turn those bars around, wave a red cape in front of it and yell out torro. gota love those maxim bars. yea my xs4 had those same bars and they were changed to some nice touring bars. must be nice to have time and a little cash to have a project like that. what do you plan to do with the air box, keeping it stock or doing pods? good luck with the bike will be checking in on this thread.

I cut the stock air box up to make it easier to get out of the frame. Im going with pods. Im going to make a set of bars for it, thats the first thing that has to go.

If he copied you, then you copied me.

I've got a 93 f2. Had it for about 3 years now. But it sits in the shop cuz my '05 1000RR gets all the attention now.

Got the motor pulled today. So now I need to get the cams set back up and the timing figured out and we can fire her up. Then we can start really chopping into the frame and getting some work done.

ask and you shall receive

This is somewhere close to where ride height in the back will be (think of the top of the blocks in the rear as the ground). Its gonna be slammed.
