Also have a Borg 1350 manual and 2 spare front driveshafts to modify to fit

and pending the funds, I should have all the front axle parts too

Gonna be sweet can't wait to see it done. Are you going with the live axle setup or are you going with the older cvs and manual hubs?

 

the stuff i will hopefully getting is a live axle setup from an 02

here in lies the thread about a build-up of a 4wd SL'd trac. the idea was killed by the tri-fecta of knowledge whose powers can only be employed by a wife; reason, logic, and practical sense.

the wife shall remain namless and she will remain innocent until proven guilty. the trac will live on in 2wd form, and will receive a lift in its own right, but it will never be the same again. nor as much fun to drive in the maine winters.

Nice. I feel your pain to some extent, lol. I'm just starting the transmission rebuild needed to put the 4x4 output shaft in my 4x2 transmission. Are you swapping transmissions or rebuilding your existing one?

I figured while I'm in there I might as well do a "soft parts" rebuild. The transmission is in the basement waiting until I can get to it tomorrow.

In my case, the torsion bar question is moot: I went SAS. I'm using an electric transfer case also, but with my own controller. Someday a full drivetrain swap -- engine, tranny, t-case -- will be in order and then I'll possibly go manual.

 

i already have a output shaft housing, just need to gather the other parts


I will be living in Maine at the time of this swap, so Im going to start finding some shops and see about a tranny rebuild with shift kit, then turned into 4x4 tranny. OOOR if the cost is too much, just buy a rebuilt 4x4 tranny and swap.

Right now Im planning to run a manual 1350 (once I find linkage) or a have a Electric 1354 I can run, but the motor mount is broken so I would have to shift it manually with some needle nose pilers OR make a shifter linkage (way too hard)


The way I look at it, It will help me get 4x4 in maine. All without buying a new vehicle for myself

convert my tranny (so far i have the output shaft housing)
Get a front pig
Manual Transfer case shifter


Thats about it, to at least get it running. And some other small odds and ends


Oh, and some interior parts, since I have a full console stock, I'm planning to swap to a short console

Depending on the shape of it, I will either rebuild it, swap parts from my 04 tranny, or swap the 4x4 parts onto my 04 tranny

the tail shaft and housing are worth more than $50. Good score.

Does it have the tailshaft holes for the manual t-case shifter? I think they stopped putting those on the 5R55E's in '04?

 

Probably just needs some clutch packs and bands and a good cleaning. Good score for sure.

The tail shaft on my auto in my 07 has the manual shifter holes in it.

 

Mine has the holes as well.


So Scott what parts do you still need? Just the front diff or what?
