Swapped Rear End
Just put 1996 5.0 Explorer rear end on my ranger.It has 3.73 gear with limited slip.Had to reverse axle shock mounts to align the shocks.Factory sway bars bolted on pretty good.I am trying to firgure a way to use factory 4 link on ranger.Any help would be nice.

It has been a long and teadous project for me and just completed phase 1.I currently have a 351w in the garage and I am about to trade it for a fuel injected 5.0.Plans are also to have 96-97 cobra ecu with tranny so theres the answer to it being in the projects log!!!

... the project logs section is for displaying progress and getting help on anywhere you might be stuck. It serves as a point of reference like a "How-To". Save the anecdotes of your setup for your signature or garage or something. No need to make a thread unless you showcase pics and let people know tips and tricks and any hardships you encountered.
EDIT: Glad to see some pics, now throw in some more text ! Tons of people including myself are always looking for reading material on swaping in a exploder rear end. tell me about the process you experienced

Some of the things I ran into on the swap.
1)I had to reverse the shock/axle mounting brackets so the shocks would mount up.You can not use the original axle mounting brackets due to the explorer axle is bigger.
2)The brake were pretty easy to swap and you should not need any additional stuff if you get the axle from disc to disc.We picked it up at a local pick a part for $120 and there is a $35 core charge.
3)The exsisting sway bar on the ranger mounted up pretty good for the most part.The axle from the explorer is a little beefier.
4)Make sure you fill the differential up first before installing it.It will speed the process up.I definitly wish I had known that.
5)When we picked up the axle from pick a part make sure to grab the shock mount.As seen in #1

How Is The Swap Going?
How is the swap going? if you do not mind i have a few questions.
what size tires are you using, how did the gear ratio work out?
did your shocks work, or did you change them?
did you change the master cylinder for the brakes, how do they feel?
were the two rears the exact same with?

Tires are 275/45/17's.The rear ends are not the same.Th explorer rear end is bigger in diameter.The shocks worked fine just need the mounting brackets off the explorer and reverse the sides they were mounted on.The brakes seem to work just fine.I dont know if it being a 4.0l they already used a bigger master cylinder?
