Can't speak for the 4.0, but on my 3.0 the only difference in the dust plate was a very thin piece of extra aluminum that was spot welded to the starter section of the shield. I highly doubt it really makes any difference because of how thin it is. I only bought it because Ford said they were different, and it was only $14.
