drop down box for location in the marketplace

well just as the title says, i have recently had a thread closed due to the lack of a state in the title box. i can say its my fault, should have known better since this isnt my first go around on this site trying to sell something. i suggest that some how a mandatory box be installed on the marketplace form that makes you put your location. it wont let you post unless you have a state. i think it would cut down alot on the the moderators job to have to look for mistakes like this. well thats my two cents. thanks

That's a good idea! I agree it would make the mods job easier too.

That's a good idea.

It seems like a lot of site changes are coming, I wonder if we can add that to the list

I tried to have that implemented some 3+ years ago back when I was staff and I was told it wasn't an option yet in the vbulletin build features. Or they couldn't figure it out. Some time has passed though. Would make it very easy, but will say though there are other people from not just the states whom post. There'd need to be provinces in the option list below the state initials maybe.

I don't like the location being required in the thread title for eBay listings. That's just dumb. Well, having the location of the member or the item in the title isn't dumb itself, it's enforcement of that rule in that particular section only is just stupid.

At the top of each Classified sub section, there's a sticky stating the rules for that section. I actually checked 'em when I saw your thread locked. I too was under that impression til I started seeing eBay and CL link threads locked up...and I looked into it.

It's as simple as making location not required for eBay auctions. Having a member state his/her location or the item location off eBay is kind of a ridiculous rule IMO. One of them rules that aren't enforced would be nice. lol.

Note: I understand requiring a location for Craigslist link ads. That's self explanatory and not being questioned.

We've asked KLC for input on this and are waiting for his response. As Shane said though, this has been brought up before and I believe it wasn't an easy add on. We'll keep you guys posted though.

Requiring a suffix for marketplace ads could be done, but it would require a custom form, like the RBV section, or a mod. As with anything custom, it is not a simple addition. The section rules have been in place for years and have not changed with regard to location being required. However, as time allows, I will make this addition.

why not have the rule change to needing the location for local pickup only? The majority of stuff for sale is shipped, with a VERY small portion being local meet sales. It's just kind of a silly requirement. The only thing it does for me is make me realize it's a for sale thread when I see it at the side.

Why change a rule that has been in place for years and that everyone already knows?

my purpose for posting was to make everyones fourm experience a little better. with my job i do alot of epo / thefts entered into the national database. there are required fields that must filled out before you can submit. if you dont it kicks it back. it doesnt have to be a drop down box. in the current form in the market place if you dont define weather its for sale, for trade or what ever it may be it wont let you post. i know the rules have been around for years but somtimes people forget. my suggestion/comment was just to make it easier on the members and the moderators. thats all

Thank you for your suggestion. I know exactly what you are talking about and will definitely develop something to fit our needs. Unfortunately, suffixes are not an option as-is. That would be too easy.

I know what you were saying, my comment was directed toward this one. I guess I should have used the quote button.

The future's in the air
I can feel it everywhere
Blowing with the wind of change
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away

not to thread jack, but i think we could add an iPhone app to that list that supports picture uploading. cause 75% of the time I'm using an iPad or phone to access this site.

Get the photobucket app and to upload on your browser and then search on here for an app and you will get all your answers. Or don't a few thousand dollars to us and we will get an app.
